How to Clean Out Your Closet
Once you start purchasing more and more clothes, it’s common to forget some of your older ones. And even though cleaning can sometimes appear to be a daunting task — the end result is always worth it.
Let 5-Minute Crafts guide you through a step-by-step approach on how to clean out your closet.
What you’ll need
- Some bins or boxes
- Vacuum cleaner
- A microfiber cloth
- An all-purpose cleaner
- A garbage bag
Step 1: Remove everything from the closet.
Take every item out of your closet and place it on a large surface like a table, the floor, or a bed.
Step 2: Clean and vacuum.
Before placing anything back into the closet, grab your vacuum, microfiber cloth, and all-purpose cleaner to spray clean every surface and give the closet a good vacuuming. While you’re at it, you can also throw away any garbage you find.
Step 3: Keep, toss, or donate.
This step is where you’ll spend the most time, as you must go through every single piece of clothing you own and decide what you want to do with it. As a general rule, try to remember when the last time was that you wore that particular piece of clothing — if it was more than 6 months ago, let it go. If it was a gift but you never wear it, it should go as well.
Also, use this time to pick which hangers you’re going to keep or not.
Step 4: Organize.
After going through the whole process of deciding what you’re keeping, tossing, or donating — go ahead and place all the pieces of clothing you’re keeping back into the closet!
