8 Smart and Practical School Crafts to Showcase Your Creative Power

1. Tricolor highlighter

You will need:

  • Highlighter
  • Markers of different colors

How to do it:

  • Place one corner of the tip of a highlighter against the tip of a marker of another color.
  • Let its ink seep into the highlighter’s tip
  • Repeat on the opposite corner using another marker color.

2. Rainbow staples

You will need:

  • Stapler with hooks
  • Colored markers

How to do it:

  • Open the cover of the staple compartment of the stapler.
  • Use the markers to draw continuous lines of each color along the entire row of staples.
  • Allow the ink to dry before using them.

3. Perfect circles without a compass

You will need:

  • Two markers
  • Paper

How to do it:

  • Take a capped marker and an uncapped one.
  • Place the capped marker between your ring and middle fingers, and the uncapped one between the middle and index fingers.
  • Press the capped marker firmly against the paper; it will be the center of your circle.
  • Then, place the tip of the marker down and start rotating the paper to trace the circle.

4. Emergency tracing paper

You will need:

  • Plastic wrap
  • Marker

How to do it:

  • Place the plastic wrap over the design you want to trace.
  • Copy all its lines onto the plastic wrap.
  • Carefully remove it and place it on the paper where you want to replicate the design, with the ink side down.

5. Bottle pencil case

You will need:

  • Plastic bottle
  • Zipper
  • Cutter

How to do it:

  • About three or four fingers, from the base of the bottle, encircle the bottle with the zipper.
  • Secure the zipper in place, making sure not to glue the closure part.
  • Allow it to dry completely before opening the zipper and cutting the bottle.
  • You can paint or decorate the bottle however you like to add a unique and personalized touch.

6. Spiral notebook

You will need:

  • Colored and white sheets
  • Spiral hair tie
  • Paper punch
  • Glue

How to do it:

  • Prepare the front cover by gluing three sheets together.
  • Repeat the previous step for the back cover.
  • Place the filler sheets between both covers.
  • Align them well and start punching in a straight line along the left side edge.
  • Cut a spiral hair tie and carefully thread it through the holes you previously made.

7. Faux chalkboard cover

You will need:

  • Notebook
  • Markers
  • Adhesive tape
  • Black acrylic paint

How to do it:

  • Color the cover of your notebook as you like.
  • Once you’re done, completely cover it with adhesive tape.
  • Paint it with black acrylic paint and let it dry thoroughly.
  • Write whatever you want on your new “chalkboard.”

8. Bookmark

You will need:

  • Colored card stock

How to do it:

  • Cut a square piece of cardstock and fold it along one of its diagonals.
  • Place the fold towards you and from the resulting triangle, fold both bottom corners towards the upper corner.
  • Unfold, lower one of the faces of the upper corner, and fold it again in the same way as in the previous step
  • Tucking the tips inward as if it were a pocket.
  • Decorate as you like.
