Build a secret room under the bed: DIYs to upgrade your kid’s bedroom

As parents, we often find ourselves caught between the desire to provide a comfortable haven for our children and the need to nurture their imagination. With a touch of inspiration and a dash of ingenuity, you can turn your kid’s bedroom from a mundane room into a captivating wonderland that fuels their imagination and sense of wonder.

1. Build a strong foundation

Things you’ll need:

• 6 Storage cube hacks
• 1 Wardrobe, the same height of the hacks standing vertically

How to do it:

• Stand the hacks vertically and make a rectangle with them, against a wall
• Leave a space without hacks in the front, and fit the wardrobe there

2. Prepare a comfortable bed

Things you’ll need:

• A solid flat board
• A sleeping mattress
• A sheet
• Decorative pillows
  

How to do it:

• Place the board on top of the structure, covering the middle gap
• Put the mattress on the board and cover it with a sheet or warm bedspread
• Place some pillows on the mattress, covering where the board could be showing
• Put pillows against the wall, as well

3. Decorate the inside of the secret room

Comfort and decoration on the floor:

• Cover the floor with a mat, and place some pillows in one of the corners of this secret room

Light and fun on the ceiling:

• Stick a LED light strip around the ceiling of this room, which would be the bottom of the bed base board

TV and gaming station:

• Put a table at one of the corners of the room
• Put a small TV and vide games console on the table
• Decorate the table with a string of lights around it

Give every shelf a purpose:

• In each case of the hack, put a significant object for decoration
• It could be your kid’s favorite story book, a small decorative plant, or your child’s latest work of art

4. Prepare the staircase decoration

For this useful and decorative DIY, you’ll need:

• Fabric storage boxes
• Toys or shapes that your kid loves
• Spray paint

How to do it:

• Fold the box flat and place it on an even surface
• Put the shape in the middle of the flat box
• Spray the paint over it
• Remove the shape you used

5. Build a staircase for the bed

Things you’ll need:

• Storage hacks
• The painted storage boxes of the previous step

How to do it:

• Put a hack of four cases on the floor, beside the first wall of hacks
• Place a single case on top of the previous one
• Put a single case beside the wall of four cases
• Put the decorative fabric boxes inside the cases, stepwise
