How to Build a Vertical Garden at Home

If you like plants but don’t have much space at home, consider the option of a vertical garden. The green wall is ideal for both indoors or outdoors, so the location won’t be a problem. All you have to think about is where to place it and what species of plants to grow.

5-Minute Crafts will show you different simple methods to build your own garden at home.

Method 1: plastic bottles

Materials:

  • 9 1-liter plastic bottles
  • A razor or scissors
  • A roll of metallic cord
  • Nails
  • A hammer
  • Soil
  • Plants or seeds
  • Gardening gloves
  • A watering can

Procedure:

  1. Cut a 2 in x 3 in (5 cm x 7 cm) rectangle on the side of each plastic bottle. Make 2 small holes in the neck of the bottle and 2 small holes at the base.
  2. To join the bottles 3 by 3, cut the metal cord into 6 pieces of 6 feet and 7 inches (2 m) each. Take a piece of cord and tie a knot at the end, then thread the cord through the 2 holes in the neck of the bottle and tie a knot to secure it. Leave 12 in (30 cm) of cord and repeat the procedure to make a series of 3 bottles. At the ends, leave 12 in (30 cm) of cord to be able to hang the bottles.
  3. To join the bottles at the base, take another piece of cord and tie a knot at the end, pass the cord through the 2 holes at the base of the bottle, and tie a knot to secure it. Leave 12 in (30 cm) and repeat the procedure to make a series of 3 bottles. Leave 12 in (30 cm) of cord to be able to hang the bottles.
  4. Tie a knot to join the 2 ends of the cord that secured the bottles at the base and neck.
  5. Place the nails in the wall for the 3 series of bottles with an appropriate amount of space between each one.
  6. Using gardening gloves, take the plants or seeds and place them in the holes in the side of each bottle. Water them plentifully. This design can be used indoors or outdoors, depending on the space you have at home. And you can grow any type of plant you want.

Method 2: wooden frame

  2. Separate the 8 strips and knot them 2 by 2. Then put them back together 2 by 2, but alternate the strips from right to left.
  3. Tie a knot to bind all the strips together.
