How to Create an Easy and Affordable Cardboard Playhouse for Your Kids

There is no child who doesn’t enjoy a playhouse, especially if it’s their own that they can create and decorate according to their preferences. Join us in this step-by-step guide and discover how easy it is to craft this house with your children. There’s no doubt that this project will be something the whole family will thoroughly enjoy.

1. Get a large box like those used for washing machines, dishwashers, or ovens. In addition, you’ll need other large pieces of cardboard to create the roof and details

2. The first thing we’ll do is cut the flaps on the front and back into triangular shapes to create the roof support

3. Draw a straight line from the center top of the flap to the bottom edge and cut on both sides of each flap, both front and back

4. Next, glue the side flaps to these triangles with hot glue to create the gable roof of our house

5. Apply hot glue on both the interior and exterior of each piece you want to attach to give it more strength

6. To close the top and add more durability, we’ll attach an additional piece of large cardboard folded in half

7. Securely glue the top piece to the base, ensuring that the structure is firm and well-adhered on all sides

8. Our base house is now ready; it’s time to start working on the details like the mailbox, door, and windows

9. For a creative and realistic touch, let’s add a dormer window to the roof, imitating an attic window

10. Now, it’s time to add color. Instead of painting, for greater durability and a clean finish, we’ll use adhesive-colored paper

11. Cover each and every part of our house with adhesive paper, carefully peeling off the backing and pressing the adhesive paper onto our house using a sponge

12. For the doors and windows, we’ll create frames, and before placing them, we’ll cover them with contrasting colored paper to the walls they’re located on

13. In the front opening we created earlier, we’ll place a box without a back wall, with a slot and covered in adhesive paper, which will act as a functional mailbox

14. The interior can be decorated to your liking by adding rugs, cushions, toy boxes, or a small library. You can also add strips of lights if there isn’t enough external light coming in

15. As a final touch, a door is essential. You can install a curtain that can be opened and closed horizontally or vertically, rolling up on itself
