How to Decorate Walls Nicely

If you want to refresh your interior, the easiest way is to start with decorating the walls. Sometimes all you need to do is to repaint them or add an unusual ornament to make the room look completely different.

5-Minute Crafts is showing how, with the help of improvised means, one can paint the walls quickly and easily and give them an unusual look.

15. Lemon, halved

What you will need:

  • half a lemon

  • wall paint

How to paint: Take half of a lemon and dip it in the paint. Then attach it to the wall like a seal. Try using lemons in different sizes, or halves of apples, pears, and oranges, as well as alternating colors, to diversify the look.

14. Insulating tape and a paint roller for painting walls

What you will need:

  • roller for painting walls

  • insulating tape

  • wall paint

How to paint: Cut 4 strips of insulating tape 2.5-3 inches long and stick them on the roller for painting walls at an equal distance from each other. Dip the tool into the paint, remove the excess, and paint the wall.

13. Shaving machine and roller for painting walls

What you will need:

  • shaving machine
  • roller for painting walls

  • wall paint

How to paint: Using the shaving machine, remove some of the lint on the roller, then dip it in the paint and apply it to the wall to create a “speckled” pattern.

Try shaving off the lint on the roller differently. For example, you can make several grooves, twisting in a spiral as shown in the photo above.

What you will need:

  • artificial leaf
  • rubber gloves

How to paint: Dip the artificial leaf into the paint and apply it to the wall. Don’t forget to remove the excess paint. Try using leaves and flowers in different shapes and sizes to get a beautiful plant design.

11. Patterns made of drawing paper and sponges

What you will need:

  • 2–3 sheets of drawing paper
  • scissors

  • rubber gloves

  • sponges

  • wall paint in 3 different colors

How to paint: Using scissors, cut out the outlines of mountains on a sheet of drawing paper so that you get a pattern. Repeat it 2 more times creating mountains of different heights. Dip a sponge into the paint, place the first drawing paper against the wall, and paint over the space on the wall with the sponge. Repeat this action with other sheets of drawing paper using paint in different colors. Apply patterns over each other so that the picture looks more voluminous.

10. Cups and glasses

What you will need:

  • glasses
  • cups and other pottery

  • wall paint

How to paint: Dip the bottom of a cup into the paint, remove the excess, and place it against the wall to make a circle. Try using cookware of different sizes.

9. Ice cube trays

What you will need:

  • ice cube trays
  • wall paint

How to paint: Dip the outside of the ice cube trays in the paint. Then place them against the wall to create a small square pattern.

8. Big sponge

What you will need:

  • big sponge
  • stationary knife

  • orange wall paint

How to paint: Take the sponge and cut out a rectangle in the size of an ordinary brick with the help of the stationary knife. Then dip the sponge into the paint, remove the excess, and apply it to the wall to imitate brickwork.

7. Comb

How to paint: apply the paint on the wall and create the necessary textured patterns (like circles, zigzags, or waves) with the help of the comb, while the paint is still wet.

6. Broom

What you will need:

How to paint: Apply the paint to the wall and run the sweeper from top to bottom, creating a textured pattern of small grooves while the paint is wet.

5. Stockings and roller for painting walls

What you will need:

  • fishnet stockings

How to paint: Place the stocking over the roller and paint the wall with it, creating a fishnet pattern.

4. Masking tape and a roller for painting walls

What you will need:

  • masking tape or duct tape
  • roller for painting walls
  • wall paint

How to paint: Stick strips of masking tape or duct tape on the wall so that you get straight strips that intersect with each other. You can create various geometrical shapes and patterns. Then paint the wall with a roller, wait until it dries, and remove the tape.

Don’t be scared of experimenting — try different combinations of colors and shapes.

3. Cling film

What you will need:

  • metallic wall paint

How to paint: Apply the metallic paint on the wall and touch it with a piece of cling film to give the wall surface an unusual texture while it is still wet.

2. Bubble wrap

  • double-sided adhesive tape

  • wall paint

How to paint: cut off a piece of the bubble wrap, big enough to cover the roller. Fix it on the tool with the help of double-sided adhesive tape. Dip it into the paint, remove the excess, and apply the paint to the wall.
