How to easily create personalized cushions with your favorite photos at home
Today, we will teach you another amazing technique for easily transferring any image you want onto fabric. You can use this method to create custom t-shirts, fabric decorations, and other creative projects. Let’s get started!
Materials you’ll need:
- A photocopied image in black and white or color (make sure the photocopied ink is toner-based and not liquid ink).
- A cushion cover or the fabric onto which you want to transfer the image.
- Transfer medium (available at craft stores).
- Sponge
1. Trim the photocopied image, leaving a margin around what you want to transfer
2. Place the cushion cover or fabric you want to transfer the image onto on a smooth, flat surface, ensuring it is stretched and free of wrinkles or folds
3. Apply an even layer of transfer medium to the printed side of the photocopied image
4. Use the sponge to spread it evenly across the entire surface
5. Place the image with the printed side facing down onto the fabric
6. Use the sponge again to smooth the image and eliminate any air bubbles or wrinkles
7. Let the transfer medium dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions, which typically takes a few hours
8. Once the transfer medium is completely dry, dampen the surface of the photocopy paper with a wet sponge or cloth and allow the water to soak into the paper for a few minutes
9. Gently rub the damp paper in circular motions using your fingers or a soft sponge, and you will notice the top layer of paper starting to peel off, revealing the transferred image on the fabric
10. After removing all the paper, allow the fabric to air-dry completely before inserting the cushion inside the cover
11. To ensure the transferred image is durable, you can use a hot iron (without steam) with a sheet of parchment paper placed over the transferred image
