How to make a fantastic DIY mermaid costume

Few mythical creatures capture the imagination quite like mermaids, with their enchanting allure and shimmering scales. If you’ve ever dreamed of channeling your inner sea siren and making a splash at your next costume event, you’re in for a treat. Welcome to our magical tutorial, where we will unravel the secrets behind crafting a sensational DIY mermaid costume that will leave everyone awestruck.

What you’ll need

• Plastic wrap
• Duct tape
• Sintepon
• Fabric
• Flexible plastic
• A pair of fabric flat shoes
• Silicone sealant of various colors
• Glitter

How to do it

• Wrap the lower part of your body, from your waist to your ankles, with plastic wrap
• Wrap duct tape around your legs, over the plastic wrap
• Cut the back of the double wrap, all the way down, to take it off
• Seal the tail together with tape

• Cut the shape of a mermaid tail fin off the plastic sheet
• Put the shoes on and step on the top of the fin
• Stick the shoes to the fin, with duct tape

• Take off the shoes and put them inside the end of the fabric of the tail you previously made
• Stick them together, with tape

• Put silicone sealant on the tail fin and spread it with a spatula
• Put the sealant on the rest of the tail and spread it as well, all the way up

• Spread black sealant over the tail fin, so you cover it all
• Using blue sealant, make lines on the fin, tor texture
• Spread some glitter over the fin

• Put a line of blue sealant dots on the base of the tail
• Pass the tip of a triangular spatula over the top of each dot, to create scales
• Put another line if dots over the first one and repeat the process
• Use several shades of blue sealant for a better finish
