How to Make an Envelope: 5 Ways

An envelope serves as great packaging for letters, cards, and cash gifts but we often don’t have one on hand when we need it. Luckily, there are several ways to quickly make both simple and unusual envelopes at home, and today, 5-Minute Crafts is prepared to show you 5 different folding techniques.

What you’ll need:

  • A piece of A4 paper

How to do it:

1. Take a piece of A4 paper and fold it in half horizontally and vertically to form creased lines. Then unfold the paper.

2. Fold the bottom of the paper that constitutes about 1/4 of the paper’s width, up.

3. Fold the edges of the folded rectangle inside as shown in the picture above.

4. Fold the sides of the paper (each of them should constitute about 1/6 of the paper’s length) up.

5. Fold the edges of the rectangles you’ve just folded inside.

6. Fold the upper part along the dotted line, as shown in the example, and insert its edge into the lower pocket to secure the envelope.

7. Your envelope is ready!

What you’ll need:

  • A square piece of paper
  • Glue

How to do it:

1. Take a square piece of paper and fold it diagonally, making the opposite corners meet.

2. Unfold the paper and connect the other 2 opposite corners in the same way.

3. Unfold the paper and rotate it so one of the angles is on top. You should see 2 diagonal lines on your piece of paper.

4. Fold the left and the right corners of the paper toward the middle.

5. Fold the upper part of the paper to the middle in such a way that it touches the sides of the side triangles.

6. Unfold the top flap. Fold the lower part up so that the corner touches the crease on the upper part.

7. Fold down the top corner of the lower part you’ve just folded. Its sides should be in line with the sides of the side triangles.

8. Unfold the lower part of the envelope completely. Apply glue to the undersides of the side triangles and to the small triangle on the lower part.

9. Fold the small triangle back up and glue it to the lower part.

10. Fold the lower part up and glue it to the side triangles.

11. Your envelope is ready!

What you’ll need:

  • A piece of A4 paper
  • A pair of scissors
  • A pencil
  • Glue

How to do it:

1. Fold the sheet of A4 paper in half.

2. Draw a half heart with its center on the folded line of the paper and cut it out.

3. Unfold the heart. Fold its sides toward the middle as shown in the picture above.

4. Fold the rounded part of the heart up.

5. Fold the top part of the heart down to close the envelope.

6. Glue the sides of the envelope together.

7. Your envelope is ready!

What you’ll need:

  • A piece of A4 paper

How to do it:

1. Fold the paper in half horizontally and then unfold it. Fold the top left corner to the fold in the center.

2. Fold the bottom right corner in the same way.

3. Fold the upper right part of the paper to the left and to the upper triangle. Its edge should touch the triangle. Fold the lower left side of the paper in the same way.

4. Fold the bottom part of the paper toward the middle.

5. Fold the upper part of the paper toward the middle.

6. Hide the edges of the formed shapes into the pockets located under them.

7. Your envelope is ready!

What you’ll need:

  • A square piece of paper
  • A ruler

How to do it:

1. Fold a square piece of paper in half diagonally to form a triangle.

2. Take the corner of the top layer and fold it down. It should touch the bottom part of the triangle.

3. Take a ruler and distinguish 1/3, starting from the left corner of the triangle.

4. Take the right corner of the triangle and fold it to the 1/3 mark on the bottom of the triangle.

5. Take the left corner and fold it so it goes straight into the right corner of the shape.

6. Take the same left corner and fold it back so it touches the left corner.

7. Unfold the triangle you just folded back, open it, and press it with your fingers so it becomes flat and turns into a diamond-shaped pocket.

8. Take the top part of the initial triangle and fold it down. Make sure it fits inside the diamond pocket.

9. Your envelope is ready!
