How to Make Your Own Paper Sky Lantern to Brighten any Celebrations

Welcome to our step-by-step guide on how to make a paper sky lantern! In this article, we’ll take you through the creative process of crafting your very own sky lantern using simple materials. With clear instructions and visual aids, you’ll be ready to light up the night sky with your homemade creation. Whether it’s for a special occasion or simply a fun DIY project, making a paper sky lantern is an enjoyable and rewarding endeavor.

Materials needed

  • Thin wire
  • Tissue paper
  • Glue
  • Fabric
  • Candle
  • Pliers (optional)

1. Take two pieces of wire of the same length, place them together, fold them in half, and roll them onto themselves as shown in the picture

2. Separate their “legs” and stretch them horizontally to position them in the shape of a cross

3. Cut a thin, but long, rectangle of fabric

4. Light the candle and let its melted wax drip onto the fabric rectangle until it is completely soaked

5. Roll the fabric in the center of the wire cross from one end until the fabric is fully wrapped

6. On a clean and spacious surface, lay out the tissue paper and cut a piece of wire the length of the tissue paper, plus a little extra

7. Apply glue from one side to the other along the entire bottom edge of the tissue paper, being very careful not to tear it

8. Place the piece of wire on the glue and fold the paper’s bottom edge up to cover it

9. Next, apply glue to the side of the paper and press the opposite side on top to stick them together

10. Braid the leftover wire tips together and bend them inward to round out the wire’s shape

11. Finally, attach the piece we had made earlier to this component, centering the cross within the circle and bending the corners of the cross wires around the lower circle’s wire

12. To use it, (remember to launch sky lanterns in open areas, away from buildings, trees, and other flammable objects) hold the lantern by the top of the paper, ignite the fabric, and a few seconds later release the sky lantern
