5 Quick Ways to Prepare Salmon

When preparing a meal, we often choose salmon, not just because of its exquisite taste, but also because it is quick to make and it takes less time to clean the kitchen afterward. And there are many recipes with salmon that we can choose from.
To make that choice easier, 5-Minute Crafts wants to share with you the step-by-step instructions for cooking some simple recipes so that you can have them at hand and savor this delicacy without things getting too complicated.

1. Grilled salmon with caramelized onions

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice of fresh salmon
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • ½ lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Peel the onion and cut it into thin slices.

2. Place the sliced onion in a skillet, cover it, and cook over medium-low heat until the onion becomes translucent — about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the pan and burning.

3. When the onion finally turns translucent, add the brown sugar, stir, and let the coated onion cook over medium-low heat until it caramelizes and takes on a thick texture.

4. Then pour in the vinegar, cook for a few more minutes, and turn off the heat.

5. Season the fish with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Place it in the pan without adding any oil and cook for about 3 minutes on each side.

6. Serve the grilled salmon on a plate and drizzle it with the caramelized onion sauce. Serve with baked or mashed potatoes.

2. Salmon meatballs with tomato sauce

Ingredients:

  • 600 g fresh salmon
  • 50 g breadcrumbs
  • 60 ml whole milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 200 g tomato sauce
  • 100 g wheat flour
  • 200 ml olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 sprig of parsley

Instructions:

1. Mix the breadcrumbs with the milk.

2. Finely chop the salmon, garlic, and parsley. Combine the ingredients with the breadcrumbs and milk mixture, and add the egg yolk. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

3. Take a spoonful of the mixture with your hands and shape it into a small ball that is approximately 4 cm in diameter. Repeat this step until the whole mixture is turned into meatballs.

4. Dredge the meatballs in the flour until they are well coated.

5. Heat enough oil over medium-high heat either to deep fry or at least to cover a big portion of the meatballs. You can use a skillet or a small pot. Fry the meatballs until golden brown. First on one side, then on the other.

6. When they are ready, remove the meatballs from the pan and place them on layered paper towels to remove the excess fat.

7. Serve the meatballs while they are still hot and pour tomato sauce on top. You can garnish them with rice, potatoes, or toasted bread.

3. Salmon coated in a pecan crust

Ingredients:

  • 200 g salmon
  • 80 g walnuts
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 20 ml olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Mix the finely chopped walnuts with the thyme and lemon zest in a large dish.

2. Season the salmon with salt and pepper to taste and spread the mustard on the side opposite the skin.

3. Place the mustard-smeared side of the fish on top of the walnut mixture and gently squeeze to coat it with the walnuts.

4. Place a few drops of oil on a piece of aluminum foil and arrange the salmon, skin-side down. Place in a preheated oven at 200°C (390ºF) and cook for 10-15 minutes. After the indicated time, remove it from the oven. You can serve it with a salad.

4. Salmon with orange sauce

Ingredients:

  • 200 g salmon
  • 1 orange
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 20 ml oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Start by preparing the orange sauce. Mix the orange juice with the lemon juice in a skillet. Add the lemon zest, sugar, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook the ingredients over low heat until you see that the resulting sauce starts to thicken and set aside.

2. Now prepare the salmon. Start by seasoning it with salt and pepper. Cook it on a griddle until the skin is toasted. Then turn the fish over and cook it for about 3 more minutes. When it is ready, remove the skin, transfer it to a plate, and pour the sauce on top. You can serve this dish with rice or salad as a garnish.

5. Baked salmon with cream and mushroom soup

Ingredients:

  • 1 fresh salmon fillet
  • 150 g mushrooms
  • 1 onion
  • 200 ml liquid cream
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 dash of extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:

1. Cut both the onion and the mushrooms into thin strips. Heat a little oil in a skillet and stir fry all the ingredients over medium-high heat for a few minutes.

2. Once the mushrooms and onion are cooked, season with salt and pepper to taste, and add the cream and flour. Then cook for about 5 more minutes.

3. Place the salmon in a baking dish with high edges and add the cream and mushroom sauce.

4. Place the dish into a preheated oven at 180°C (350ºF) and cook for about 15-20 minutes. After the indicated time, the dish is ready to serve.
