5-Minute Crafts offers a simple and proven way to cook the perfect sponge cake.
Cooking utensils

To make a sponge cake, you need:
- a bowl
- a mixer or whisk
- a spatula, silicone or wooden (can be replaced with a spoon)
- baking dish or a ring 18 cm in diameter (if you use a ring, put it on top of a silicone pad for baking or several layers of tin foil or parchment)
Ingredients

-
5 chicken eggs
-
1 1/4 cup (160 grams) of wheat flour
-
1 cup (200 grams) of sugar
-
a pinch of salt
The cooking process

-
Break the eggs into a bowl for whipping and add sugar and salt.

-
Whip the eggs, sugar, and salt with a mixer at a fast speed for 4-5 minutes.

-
Add flour.

-
Use your spatula to mix the flour with the dough.

-
Keep mixing until you get a liquid.

- If you are using a baking dish, rub it with butter and put some flour on top. If you have a ring, you don’t need to do this.
- Pour the dough. If you’re using a ring, some dough may get out, this is perfectly normal.

-
Cover the dish with tin foil.

-
Bake the cake for 30 minutes at 350°F, then lower the temperature to 300°F and bake for 30 more minutes.
-
To check if the cake is done, pierce it with a toothpick. When you take it out, there should be no leftovers on the stick.
-
When the cake is done, let it cool down on a baking rack.
-
Cut the cake using a knife.
Recommendations

-
To make the cake a bit more light, separate the yolks from the whites. First, whip the yolks with sugar, then add flour, and finally add the whipped whites.
-
After you put the baking cake into the oven, don’t open the oven, otherwise, the dough will go down.
-
During baking, the cake will grow. If you decide to add baking powder, it will grow more.
-
If you are going to make a cake using this sponge cake, it’s better to wrap the sponge in plastic wrap and put it into the fridge overnight.
-
To make good sponge cake, make sure all the ingredients are at room temperature.
