How to Dry Oranges
Besides being very easy to make, dried orange slices can be used to flavor tea, garnish different dishes, and make Christmas ornaments. Whichever purpose you want them for, they will add some color and a pleasant aroma to your day.
5-Minute Crafts will show you 3 ways to dry orange slices at home and surprise your next guests.
In an oven
What you’ll need:
- A sharp knife
- 2 tea towels or kitchen paper
- A wire rack
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 210ºF. Then, cut the oranges into slices, making sure they’re no more than 1 cm thick. If you’d like, use a fork to help you protect your fingers.
- Put the orange slices between 2 baking paper sheets or tea towels and tap to remove the excess moisture.
- Put the slices onto a wire rack and place them in the oven for about 2-3 hours. Flip the slices constantly to prevent them from sticking to the rack. Wait until they’re smaller and darker.
- Once the slices are ready, remove them from the heat and let them cool.
In a microwave
What you’ll need:
- A sharp knife
- A wire rack
- Paper towel
- Tongs
Instructions:
- Cut the oranges into 1/2 cm slices. Then, put 5 sheets of paper towels on the microwave plate and lay the slices there, making sure they don’t overlap. Cover the slices with 5 more sheets of paper towel.
- Put the plate into the microwave and heat the slices for 7 minutes on the defrosting setting. When the time is up, remove the orange slices using the tongs, discard the paper towel underneath, and place in 5 new sheets. You can reuse the sheets that were on top.
- Place the plate into the microwave once again and heat the slices for 5 minutes on the defrosting setting. Remove them and check to see if they’re jelly-like. If they aren’t, put the slices back in the microwave and heat them for 2-minute intervals until they’re ready.
- Finally, lay the orange slices separately on the wire rack and wait until they look firm.
In an air fryer

Instructions:
- Cut the oranges into thin slices, discarding the ends.
- Place the slices in the air fryer rack and cook for 3 hours at 130ºF.
- Remove the slices from the air fryer and let them cool.
