How to Keep an Avocado From Turning Brown

Avocados are one of the most versatile foods since they can be included in a wide variety of dishes. However, the flesh of these fruits can brown very quickly whenever they’re exposed to oxygen in the air, something you have probably witnessed when leaving an already cut avocado for the next day.

5-Minute Crafts will show you some simple tricks to slow down this process and keep these fruits fresh for longer.

Method 1: Use lemon juice.

  • Step 1. Remove the pit and apply some fresh lemon juice to the flesh.
  • Step 2. Wrap the avocado in a piece of plastic film and put it in the fridge.

Method 2: Submerge it in water.

  • Step 1. Pour some water into a plastic or glass container until it’s almost full.
  • Step 2. Submerge the avocado in the water, making sure that the flesh side is facing down.
  • Step 3. Cover the container and take it to the fridge. Your avocado will stay fresh for about 2 more days.

Method 3: Store it the right way.

  • Simply store the avocado half facing down. This will prevent the oxygen from coming in contact with its surface and, therefore, causing browning.

Method 4: Store with onions.

  • Step 1. Chop up some onion and place it on the bottom of a container.
  • Step 2. Put the avocado half on top of the onion bed with the flesh side facing up. Then, cover and store the container in the fridge.

Method 5: Coat with oil.

  • Brush the cut avocado with some olive oil or any other type of oil that doesn’t have a strong taste. Then, cover and store it in the fridge.
