How to Make a Key Lime Pie
When it comes to dessert, we cannot forget to mention the classic key lime pie (also known as lemon pie in some countries). It’s a delicious sweet bite, ideal not only for birthdays and celebrations but also to be served as an accompaniment to any breakfast or snack.
5-Minute Crafts wants to show you how to prepare this simple recipe, which does not require many ingredients and can be prepared in no more than 30 minutes (active time).
Ingredients (for 8 servings, approximately)
- 1 ½ cups Marie biscuits or Graham crackers (crumbled and ready to use)
- 1 can condensed milk
- ¼ cup salted butter
- ½ cup lemon juice
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 3 eggs
- Lemon zest (zesting one lemon is enough)
Instructions
-
In a bowl, place the crumbed Marie biscuits or Graham crackers. Melt the butter and add it to the bowl. Mix the ingredients well until you get a sort of paste.
-
Prepare the mold (or individual molds) where you will cook the pie. Pour the batter into them and, using a spoon or a spatula, spread it until it covers the entire bottom and edges of the mold. This will be the base of your dessert and it will become a crust once baked.
-
Take the 3 eggs and break them, dividing the yolks from the whites. Put them in different bowls and set the whites aside.
-
In a bowl, mix the condensed milk together with the lemon juice, zest, and the 3 yolks you just divided. Whisk all the ingredients until they are completely incorporated.
-
Pour the mixture into the mold and, using a spoon or a spatula, spread it to cover the entire crust of the pie.
-
In another bowl, beat the 3 egg whites with the sugar until you obtain a light meringue. Then use it to top to the pie. Spread it well so that it covers the entire surface of the pie.
-
Preheat the oven to 390ºF (200°C) for 5-10 minutes (if you are using an electric oven, you should preheat it for 10-15 minutes).
-
Then, place the mold with the dessert in the oven and bake it for 15 minutes.
-
After that time has passed, remove the pan from the oven and let the pie cool down.
-
Then, refrigerate the pie for a couple of hours before serving.
