How to Make Healthy Snacks for Kids

Healthy snacks don’t have to be boring, they can be fun and delicious. 5-Minute Crafts brings you 7 snack ideas that kids will love.

1. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a great breakfast, but it’s also an amazing snack that comes with a lot of health benefits.

Make the oatmeal with rolled oats, 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon, and add some sliced fruit for sweetness.

2. Fruit smoothie

Fruit smoothies are packed with a lot of nutrients. They’re also a great way to sneak in some veggies without your kids noticing. Here’s how you can make a berry smoothie (4 servings):

  • 2 cups (60 grams) of fresh spinach
  • 2 cups (300 grams) of frozen berries
  • 1 cup (240 ml) of plain yogurt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) of whole milk or almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon (20 grams) of honey

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

3. Banana oat cookies

This homemade snack tastes like a treat and it’s free from refined sugars since you use bananas as a sweetener. Here’s how you can make yours:

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) of coconut oil
  • 2 cups (160 grams) of rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (80–90 grams) of mini chocolate chips or dried fruit
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of vanilla

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Add spoonfuls of the cookie mixture onto a greased cookie sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 350°F (175°C).

4. Carrot sticks and hummus

Hummus is thick, creamy, and contains fiber, folate, and plenty of antioxidants. It’s a great way to make kids eat their veggies. They can enjoy hummus with carrots or other raw vegetables.

5. Frozen fruit

If you want to make eating fruit fun, put some of them on mini popsicle sticks and freeze them. It’s a healthy snack and kids will love it. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and grapes are great for this.

6. Apple slices and peanut butter

Peanut butter adds protein and healthy fat to your kid’s snack, making it more satisfying. To make this snack, simply slice an apple and let your kids spread some peanut butter on top.

7. Yogurt parfait

This is a snack your kids can make themselves (with a little help if needed). Just add some plain yogurt into a clear bowl or cup and let your kids layer it with fruit, granola, nuts, and more yogurt.
