How to Make Rice Pudding (Traditional and Diet Recipes)

Rice pudding is a traditional dessert and, apart from being easy and quick to make, everyone loves it. You can choose to serve it hot or cold. It’s so delicious that it’s become the top choice among desserts. On top of that, it will last for several days, and you can have it either at night or during the day.

5-Minute Crafts has put together 2 versions of the recipe for rice pudding that are suitable for those who love the traditional way, as well as for those who prefer a healthier option.

Traditional recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of white rice (preferably long-grain)

  • 3 cups of water

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 tsp of grated lemon rind (optional)

  • A pinch of salt

  • 4 cups of cow milk

  • 1 ½ cups of sugar

  • ⅓ cup of raisins or 1cup of walnuts for decoration (depending on your taste)

  • 1 tsp of vanilla essence

  • A pinch of ground cinnamon for decoration

  1. Put the rice in a large pot with water, the cinnamon stick, the grated lemon rind, and salt.

  2. Boil at high heat, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot until the rice has absorbed most of the water.

  3. Add milk and sugar. Increase the heat and stir until it thickens.

  4. Add vanilla and cook for 2 more minutes.

  5. Remove from the heat and let it cool for 25 minutes.

  6. Pour the pudding into dessert bowls. Add raisins (to taste) and sprinkle ground cinnamon as decoration.

Diet recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of brown rice

  • 1 cup of water

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 tsp of vanilla

  • 3 cups of coconut milk

  • ¼ cup of coconut sugar (or any sweetener of your choice)

  • 1 tsp of grated lemon rind

  • A pinch of ground cinnamon for decoration

  1. Put brown rice, water, a teaspoon of vanilla, and the cinnamon stick in a pot. Cook for 15 minutes.

  2. Add the coconut milk, sugar or any other substitute, and grated lemon rind.

  3. Cook for another 15 minutes.

  4. Let it cool.
