How to Make Szechuan Sauce

The Szechuan sauce is famous for being on the McDonald’s menu and also because it was featured in an episode of Rick and Morty. This sauce can be a great complement to rice, meat, or fish.

5-Minute Crafts is offering you a quick and simple way to make this delicious Szechuan sauce.

Inventory

To make the Szechuan sauce, you need:

  • A small pot
  • A mortar to grind the spices

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of chicken broth

  • 3.4 oz of soy sauce

  • 1 tsp of dry ginger

  • 1 tsp of granulated garlic

  • 1/4 tsp of sesame oil

  • 3 tsp of corn starch

  • 7 tsp of white sugar

  • 1/2 tsp of Szechuan pepper

  • 1/4 tsp of ground red pepper

  • 1/4 tsp of coriander

  • 4 tsp of rice vinegar

  • 1 to 2 tsp of lime juice

How to make it

  • Prepare all the ingredients.

  • Wash the lime, cut it in half, and squeeze out 1-2 tsp of juice.

  • Grind the coriander and Szechuan pepper.

  • The ground spices might contain bigger and smaller pieces, which is perfectly fine.

  • Pour some broth into the pot.

  • Put it on medium heat.

  • Add the soy sauce.

  • Add the dry ingredients.

  • Stir the mix well.

  • Keep boiling the sauce for 10-15 minutes.

  • When the sauce becomes a bit thicker, it’s ready.

  • If you want to make it even thicker, add 1 tsp of corn starch or flour.

  • Serve the sauce cold.

  • Make sure that the sauce becomes thicker once it’s cooled down.

  • Store the sauce in the fridge. It will remain fresh for at least 1 week.
