What You Can Replace Mayo With

If you’re tired of regular mayo or want to make a sauce that is more healthy, have a look at the recipes we’ve put together for you.

5-Minute Crafts would like to offer you a few different sauces for any taste, which are also quite easy to make.

Cashew sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups of cashews
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/4 cup of nutritional yeast
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (you may need some more)
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper

Cooking process:

  1. Cover cashews with water and let them sit for at least 2 hours. If you need to speed up the process, put raw cashews into a pot of water and put it over high heat. Bring to a boil, then turn off the heat immediately. Let the nuts sit for 30 to 45 minutes and then drain.
  2. Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

Cilantro pumpkin seed pesto

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of toasted pumpkin seeds
  • 4 cups of packed cilantro leaves
  • 1 clove of garlic, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of red chili flakes
  • 3/4 cup of olive oil

Cooking process:

  1. Mix pumpkin seeds, cilantro, garlic, salt, and chili flakes in the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Add olive oil until all ingredients form a smooth puree.

Lemon garlic cream sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 cloves of grated garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of half and half
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup of parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of parsley, chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste

Cooking process:

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook it for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  2. Gently whisk flour into the garlic butter mixture. Cook for 1 minute, stirring continuously.
  3. Add cream gradually. Add salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, until the sauce thickens. If lumps form, remove them.
  4. Mix lemon juice and zest. Add parmesan cheese and parsley. Serve immediately.

Creamy beet and tahini dip

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium beets
  • 2 small garlic cloves, quartered
  • 1/2 cup of tahini
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • freshly-ground pepper
  • olive oil, to serve (optional)
  • pita bread or crackers to serve (optional)

Cooking process:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Put the beets on a sheet of foil and fold the edges so that the beets are completely covered with the foil. Bake until tender, for about 1 hour. Let them cool.
  2. Peel the beets. Cut them into wedges and put them into the food processor. Add garlic, tahini, sour cream, lemon juice, salt, and some ground pepper. Blend the ingredients until smooth.
  3. You can add 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the finished sauce. Serve it with pita bread, crackers, or toast points.

Authentic Greek tzatziki sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 large unpeeled cucumber
  • 1.5 cups of full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 2 large, finely minced garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh dill

Cooking process:

  1. Grate the cucumber and strain it through a fine sieve. Leave it in the refrigerator overnight.
  2. Mix yogurt, garlic, oil, vinegar, and salt. Cover the mixture and also refrigerate overnight.
  3. The next day, mix the grated cucumber, fresh dill, and yogurt mixture. Serve chilled.

Avocado lime sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 jalapeno, seeded and diced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Cooking process:

  1. Put the ingredients into the blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  2. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then blend again.
  3. If you’re making a salad dressing, dilute the sauce with a few tablespoons of water until it reaches the desired consistency.

Tomato BBQ sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon of instant coffee
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

Cooking process:

  1. Mix all the ingredients and put the resulting mixture into a saucepan.
  2. Heat over low heat for 5 minutes.
