How to Get Perfect Summer-Ready Legs

Now that the weather is on your side, you may want to put on your shorts and show off your legs that have been hiding behind trousers, tights, and socks during the winter. You can start with the appropriate routine to prepare them, like waxing, moisturizing, tanning, etc.

5-Minute Crafts enlisted and put together the essential tips and to-dos to help you show off your legs.

1. Exfoliate your legs

Our skin naturally sheds dead skin cells every 30 days. Sometimes, dead skin cells don’t shed completely, resulting in dry, flaky patches and clogged pores. Getting rid of dead skin cells is called exfoliating.

  • What to use: chemical, granular substance, body scrub, exfoliation tools, like a muslin washcloth, gloves, etc. Try mixing scrubs with grains of salt. Keep in mind that during or after the shower, the ingredients can sink in deeper. You can also DIY your scrub by mixing coffee grounds, salt, sugar, honey, milk, or buttermilk.
  • How often to do it: once or twice a week.

2. Dry brush them

Dry brushing your legs is essential to accelerate blood circulation and remove dead skin cells. You can do it in an upward direction starting at the soles of your feet or ankles. Start with soft, circular motions and then move on to longer strokes. In some situations, brushing needs to be avoided, like near rashes, wounds, etc.

  • What to use: brushes with firm bristles
  • How often to do it: before you shower, twice weekly or daily, choose what’s best for your skin

3. Hydrate them

One of the essential methods for skin hydration, and smooth, healthy-looking legs, is to keep them constantly moist. Moisturizing when your legs are a bit wet, like for instance after a shower, traps extra moisture.

  • What to use: balms, butters, lotions, creams, and oils, like coconut oil
  • How often to do it: regularly-daily

4. Get rid of your leg hair

There are multiple options out there to help you get rid of leg hair. Although razors may cause ingrown hair issues, you can use them for easy and fast results. You should shave in the direction of the hair growth, using hair conditioner, and after exfoliating. Ensure its blade isn’t damaged and that it’s stored in a dry place.

5. Add a little sparkle to them

If your legs haven’t been in the sun for a long time, you can apply one of the self-tanners on the market to get a bronze glow, which can be washed off at night. Before doing that, be sure to hydrate your skin. Of course, never forget to apply sunscreen before going out in the sun.

  • What to use: sun-safe tans, self-tanners, etc.
  • How often to do it: once a week or every 3-5 days to maintain an even tan

6. Get a pedicure

You can complete your perfect summer legs with a proper pedicure which includes exfoliating, moisturizing, and a foot massage. You can also do at-home foot care to save time and money—dead skin forms as dry, cracked, or loose skin on the bottom of your feet. There are many ways to get rid of it — you can use a pumice stone, an Epsom salt soak, or a scrub, etc.

  • What to use: cotton pads, scrubs, lotion, cuticle cream, nail polish, nail polish remover, towel, etc.
  • How often to do it: A professional pedicure might be needed every 4 to 6 weeks.
