How to Get Rid of a Puffy Face

A puffy face is one of the most common problems that you can face in the morning, and unfortunately, it can’t be solved just by applying a layer of concealer to your skin. However, there are some effective ways to de-puff your face, and 5-Minute Crafts will help you learn more about them.

1. Apply a cool compress.

What to do:

  • Take a clean cloth, wet it with cold water, and wring it out. You can also put the cloth in the fridge or the freezer for some time.
  • Sit up in bed or in a chair.
  • Apply the damp cloth to the puffy areas for a few minutes, using mild pressure.

Why it works:

✅ Cold water constricts your blood vessels and reduces swelling.

Tip: You can also wash your face with cool water.

2. Use cucumber slices.

What to do:

  • Cut 2 round slices of cucumbers and put them in the fridge for some time.
  • Then apply the slices to your eyelids and keep them there until they’re no longer cool.

Why it works:

✅ Cucumbers have anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants that help to soothe puffy eyes.

3. Apply tea bags.

What to do:

  • Soak 2 bags of black or oolong tea in warm water, then put them in the fridge for 20 minutes.
  • Place the tea bags on your eyes for 15-30 minutes.

Why it works:

✅ The caffeine in tea helps to increase circulation in your blood vessels and reduce puffiness.

4. Massage your face.

What to do:

  • Apply moisturizer to your face to make your movements smoother.
  • Start to gently massage your forehead with your fingers by moving 5 times from its center to the sides of your face and then down to the ears and to the base of your neck (where your lymph nodes are).
  • Then massage the rest of your face in circles, including the area around your eyes, cheeks, above and below the lips, and under the chin.

Why it works:

✅ Massaging motions stimulate blood flow in your face and help to push down excessive fluids from your face to the lymph nodes in your neck.

5. Sleep with your head raised.

What to do:

  • Sleep with one or more extra pillows tucked under your head. Your head should be above the level of your heart, but your neck shouldn’t be strained.

Why it works:

✅ Elevation will help to prevent fluids from accumulating in your face, especially in the area around your eyes.

6. Drink more water.

What to do:

  • Drink 72-104 ounces of fluids a day in total — this can come from water, other beverages, and different foods.

Why it works:

✅ Staying hydrated throughout the day will help you to reduce water retention and facial puffiness.

7. Cut down your salt intake.

What to do:

  • Eat no more than 2,000 milligrams (which is less than a teaspoon) of sodium a day.

Why it works:

✅ Cutting back on salt will help you to prevent water retention in your body and face, in particular.
