How to Prevent Skin and Hair Damage During the Summer
When it comes to our hair and skin, summer is the most challenging season out there. Especially for blonde hair and light skin tones.
To help you prevent damage 5-Minute Crafts has gathered some cool tips to try out this summer.
How to Protect Skin
Method 1: Cover it with clothing
Try to cover up your body parts when going outside or when you don’t have a chance to apply sunscreen at the beach. A great way to do this is to wear longer dresses or pants instead of short ones. Hats are a great way to block the sun from your face and neck.
Method 2: Massage oils
Massage the skin using coconut oil or baby oil before going for a swim at a swimming pool. The oil will create a barrier layer that will prevent the chlorine from getting in touch with the skin.
Method 3: Shower before you swim
Swimming pools are filled with a lot of chlorinated water because it can kill bacteria and germs which may cause infections. Among the benefits, chlorine has disadvantages which include damaging the upper layer of oil that prevents the scalp and skin from drying out. The skin can be easily damaged if it’s dry, so before going for a swim, remember to take a shower. This way it won’t absorb the chlorinated water.
Method 4: Sunscreen
Spending too much time in the sun may cause wrinkles or sunburn on the skin. When it comes to preventing that, sunscreen is a must-have product for summer. Its compounds can absorb the UV rays and form a shield that protects the skin. Every type of sunscreen does not have the same effectiveness. The best of them are broad-spectrum formulas, which protect skin from UVB and UVA rays.

How to protect hair
Method 1: Use SPF/UV protection
Make sure to use SPF/UV protection in your hair before exposing your hair to the sun. It can protect your hair and keep its color fresher.
Method 2: Put conditioner in your hair before swimming
Saltwater is bad for colored hair and pulls the moisture out of the hair. This can make the hair tangled and rough, and can cause split ends. To stop the damage that can be done by the salt water, apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair before swimming.
Method 3: DIY Hair Mask
To make your hair silky smooth make a DIY hair mask out of lukewarm honey and buttermilk. The honey has powers to restore moisture and will keep your hair healthy.
