10+ Smart Parenting Hacks For Every Occasion

It’s no secret that being a parent can be a difficult task, especially when you run out of ideas to keep your child entertained. Fortunately, some simple everyday techniques can make things much easier for you and your little one on any occasion.

5-Minute Crafts will show you 10+ hacks to give you a helping hand with your parenting journey.

1. Fun colored milk

What you’ll need:

  • Milk
  • A glass
  • A straw
  • Food coloring

Instructions:

  1. Pour some milk into a glass and place a straw in it.
  2. Pour a few drops of food coloring into the straw.
  3. Have your child blow through the straw to mix the food coloring with the milk.

2. Veggie nuggets

What you’ll need:

  • Broccoli and cauliflower
  • Whisked eggs (in 2 separate bowls)
  • Flour
  • Oil (enough to deep fry)
  • A frying pan

Instructions:

  1. Pour the oil into the frying pan and place it on the stove to warm it up. In the meantime, dip a broccoli or cauliflower piece into the whisked eggs until fully covered.
  2. Cover the piece in flour and dip it into the whisked eggs once again.
  3. Fry the piece for 2 minutes until it’s golden brown.
  4. Place the veggie pieces into a fun bowl for your child.

3. Halloween ice lollipops

What you’ll need:

  • Different fruits cut into small pieces
  • An ice cube tray with spooky shapes
  • Pacifiers
  • A blender

Instructions:

  1. Blend the pieces of fruit until you get a smooth mixture.
  2. Pour the fruit mixture into the ice cube tray.
  3. Place the pacifiers into each compartment and freeze for several hours.
  4. Remove the popsicles from the ice cube tray and enjoy.

4. Quick and easy apple purée

  1. Put an apple into the microwave and heat it for 1 minute.
  2. Cut it into halves and remove the purée with a spoon.

5. Magic puzzle

What you’ll need:

  • A picture
  • Scissors
  • A blank sheet of paper
  • A glue stick
  • A marker
  • A clothespin
  • Cotton
  • A small bowl with oil

Instructions:

  1. Cut the picture into 4 equal pieces and do the same with the blank sheet of paper.
  2. Stick the blank pieces of paper onto each piece of the picture, making sure that the image is facing upward.
  3. Number the pieces 1 to 4 on the corners.
  4. Have your child arrange the pieces and discover the picture by soaking a piece of cotton in oil and rubbing it onto each piece of paper.

6. Transparent tracing board.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 paper towel tubes
  • A cutter
  • A piece of cardboard
  • A hot glue gun
  • Spray paint
  • A transparent plastic sheet

Instructions:

  1. Cut each paper towel tube along the side. Leave a short margin at the bottom end.
  2. Stick each bottom end of the paper towel tubes to the piece of cardboard, making sure that the distance between each tube is slightly less than the transparent plastic sheet. The cut sides of the tubes must face each other.
  3. Paint the tubes and the cardboard with spray paint.
  4. Slide a transparent plastic sheet into each paper towel tube.
  5. Have your child trace on the transparent plastic sheet with dry-erase markers.

7. Edible bathtub paint

What you’ll need:

  • Yogurt
  • Food coloring
  • Small containers

Instructions:

  1. Pour some yogurt onto a small container and mix it with a few drops of food coloring.
  2. Have your child draw pictures on the inner side of the tub when taking a bath.
  3. Remove the paint with hot water when bath time is over.

💡 This paint can also be used on shower doors.

8. Magic painting

What you’ll need:

  • A paper towel
  • Colored markers
  • Water
  • A dropper

Instructions:

  1. Fold a piece of paper towel into equal halves and draw part of the desired picture on one of the inner faces of the towel.
  2. Fold the piece of paper towel once again to cover the drawing and draw the other part of the picture on the outer face.
  3. Have your child discover the picture by pouring a few drops of water onto the piece of paper towel.

9. An easy way to clean dirty toys

What you’ll need:

  • A plastic net basket
  • Liquid soap

Instructions:

On a shower tray or in a bathtub, place dirty toys into the net basket and pour some liquid soap onto them. Then, rinse with water.

10. Fruit purée juice

If your child refuses to have fruit purée, simply dissolve it in water to make some fruit juice. Shake well and enjoy.

11. Simple spray-paint-like technique

What you’ll need:

  • Colored markers
  • A straw
  • Sheets of paper

Instructions:

  1. Place the marker point close to the sheet of paper and blow on it by using the straw.
  2. Have your child trace and draw on the shapes with the markers.

12. Home glow bowling

What you’ll need:

  • Transparent plastic bottles
  • Glow sticks
  • A luminous ball

Instructions:

  1. Put a few glow sticks into the bottles and place them together as if they were bowling pins.
  2. Turn off the lights and have your child hit the pins with the luminous ball.

13. Sand tray for drawing

What you’ll need:

  • A cookie tray
  • Salt
  • Dye

Instructions:

  1. Add some dye to the salt and mix.
  2. Pour the dyed salt into the cookie tray.
  3. Have your child draw on the salt with their fingers.

14. Learning mat for putting on shoes

What you’ll need:

  • A piece of cardboard
  • A marker
  • Children’s shoes
  • Tape

Instructions:

  1. Trace the shoes’ shapes on the piece of cardboard, making sure that each shoe is on the correct side. Then, write the words “left” and “right” in each shape.
  2. Attach the piece of cardboard to the floor with tape.
  3. Have your child place their shoes accordingly on the shapes every time they have to put them on.
