How to Cure Hiccups

Hiccups can be very unpleasant and difficult to deal with, especially in social situations. 5-Minute Crafts has listed some things that you can do to get rid of your hiccups quickly.

1. Hold your breath

Inhale some air, hold it for 10 seconds, and then breathe out slowly. Repeat it again 20 minutes later.

2. Breathe into a paper bag

Put a paper bag over your nose and mouth and slowly breathe in and out.

3. Drink a glass of water from the far side of the glass

Bend your head over, put your mouth on the opposite side of the glass, and drink the water by tilting the glass.

4. Swallow a teaspoon of sugar

Put some granulated sugar on your tongue and let it melt for 5 to 10 seconds. Then, swallow the sugar.

5. Bite or suck on a lemon

Place a slice of lemon on your tongue, holding it with your teeth, and then bite it or suck it like an orange. Rinse your mouth with water to protect your teeth.

6. Gargle with iced water

Do it for 30 seconds. This can be repeated as many times as necessary.

By doing this, you will be swallowing air which can trigger hiccups.

2. Eating spicy foods

Spicy foods contain a chemical that activates the neurons in the diaphragm that cause hiccups.

3. Eating too much and too fast

Eating too much and fast can sometimes distend the stomach and cause irritation in the diaphragm, triggering hiccups.
