7 Steps to Easily Clean Your Shower Using Only Natural Products
The shower can be a great place to relax after a long day, have some solo time, or even sing your favorite tunes. However, it’s also the one part of the house where grime, hair, dirt, and soap residues usually accumulate, making it look rather unflattering.
5-Minute Crafts will show you 7 tips to easily clean your shower and a few hacks to keep it that way.
1. Remove buildup from your shower walls.
Rinse your shower walls and coat them in a solution made of 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of hot water. Let it sit for 10 minutes and scrub it with a sponge or a soft-bristled brush. Then, rinse thoroughly.
The acetic acid in the vinegar makes it a great cleaning agent as it can remove bacteria, dirt, grease, grime, and mineral deposits.
❗This method is safe on ceramic tiles and fiberglass only.
2. Get rid of those stubborn stains between your tiles.
Instead of using chemical cleaning agents, simply coat the grout with lemon juice, let it sit for 10 minutes, and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
The high acidity of the lemon juice will remove any discoloration and stains in your tile grout. Plus, your bathroom will have a fresh aroma afterward.
3. If there’s a shower door, rinse it with water before applying a cleaner.
After rinsing, coat the door with a natural cleaner made of hot water and distilled white vinegar, both in equal parts. Wait for 10 minutes and remove the solution with a sponge or a microfiber cloth. Finally, rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or a squeegee.
4. If your shower has curtains, put them in the washing machine.
Toss the curtain and liner in the wash alongside a pair of light-colored towels, as these will help with scrubbing. Select a regular cycle by using hot or warm water. Once the wash is finished, grab the liner and hang it up immediately.
❗The curtain and liner should be washing machine safe unless the label says the opposite.
5. Unclog your shower head.
If your shower head seems clogged with mineral deposits, follow these steps:
- Fill a plastic bag with 1/2 cup of vinegar and 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
- Attach the bag to your shower head by using an elastic band. Note that the shower head must be completely covered in the solution.
- Let it sit overnight and remove the bag the next morning.
- Run the hot water at maximum strength and remove the buildup.
6. Clean your shower tray.
Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and pour the mixture onto a sponge or cloth. Then, put on gloves and use the solution to scrub your shower tray. Finally, rinse with hot water.
❗Make sure to clean your shower tray on a regular basis as hard water and soap buildup can make it slippery.
7. If necessary, unblock the drain.
Boil your kettle as full as possible and let the hot water run down the drain. Do it slowly and in 2 stages, waiting a few seconds between each interval. The boiling water will go through the pipes, removing any residue as it goes forward.
Bonus: How to keep your shower clean
- Run the hot water after you shower to create enough steam to loosen any grime and dirt on your shower walls and doors. Afterward, rinse the residue with hot water.
- Keep a squeegee hung in the shower. Remove moisture from the walls and door with it after you shower. This can help you prevent mold and residue buildup from growing on surfaces.
- Leave the fan running after each shower. Mold and mildew can easily grow in moist, warm areas. You can prevent this by turning on the exhaust fan and letting it work for 15 minutes to dry out your bathroom.
