How to Make Your Home Smell Like Fall
Yellow leaves and delicious sweet pumpkins — yes, fall is here! The weather may be getting colder but this time of the year can make you feel warmer inside. And to make your home cozy and pleasant, 5-Minute Crafts will share 4 ways to make your lovely home smell like an autumn delight.
1. Gingerbread simmering pot
You will need:
- 4 pieces of ginger
- 2 apples sliced in half
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tbsp of pure almond extract
- 1 tbsp of whole cloves
Instructions:
- Gather all your ingredients.
- Add 6 cups of water to a medium size pan and bring it to a boil.
- Add the ingredients listed above.
- Lower the heat to simmer (around 180 to 190 degrees).
Simmering should last from 2 to 3 hours, just be sure to check there is enough water in the pot. Add a cup or 2 if the water level gets too low. A simmer pot can last up to 4 days and you can always add a small amount of water while reheating it.
2. DIY pumpkin-spice room spray
You will need:
- A spray bottle
- Clove essential oil
- Ginger essential oil
- Orange essential oil
- Cardamom essential oil
- Cinnamon essential oil
Instructions:
- Prepare one cup (150 ml or 5 oz) of distilled water.
- Add 3-4 drops of each essential oil into the distilled water.
- Pour the mixture into a clean spray bottle.
- Spray the air freshener around your house.
3. Potpourri with dried fruit and nuts
You will need:
- Dried apple slices
- Dried orange slices
- Whole nuts (with shells)
- Cinnamon sticks
- Whole cloves
- Dried rose hips
- Laurel (Bay) leaves
- Pinecones
- Essential oils: cedarwood, clove, cinnamon, orange, and pine
- A jar
Instructions:
- Clean the jar and make sure it is dry.
- Put the ingredients into the jar.
- Add 2-3 drops of the essential oils.
- Shake the jar gently so the ingredients can mix together.
4. DIY apple pie soap
You will need:
- 1 pound soap base (about half a block)
- 10 drops apple fragrance oil
- 5 drops French vanilla fragrance oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Green soap colorant (optional)
- Silicone soap mold
Instructions:
- Cut the soap into little cubes.
- Melt the soap in a pot while mixing.
- Add the apple fragrance oil, French vanilla fragrance oil, ground cinnamon, and soap colorant.
- Mix well for 30 seconds.
- Pour the mixture into the molds.
- Let the soap sit for 2 hours and then turn the mold over to pop out the soap.
