How to Protect Your Home From Pests
If you don’t like using chemical pest repellents around your house, there are plenty of natural options available. 5-Minute Crafts has prepared 5 effective recipes that will help you to get rid of the most annoying bugs that might invade your home.
1. Houseflies
Flies don’t like aromas that are very concentrated. Some of the smells that they really don’t like are those of lemon and cloves. To make this fly repellent, simply cut lemons in half and insert dried cloves in them. You can place the lemon halves on tables or shelves inside your house.
2. Fruit flies
To forget about these flying pests around fruits and berries on your counter, add equal parts water and apple cider vinegar to a small dish. Then add some drops of dish soap to it. The fruit flies will get attracted to the vinegar, and then get trapped in the soap.
3. Spiders
In a spray bottle, mix 12 fl oz (360 ml) of water, 2.7 fl oz (80 ml) vinegar, 1 tablespoon dish soap, 10 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 5 drops of lavender essential oil. Use this spray on doorways, windows, and any other surfaces that spiders can get onto.
4. Mosquitoes
Basil, lemon, and lemongrass oil are effective solutions against mosquitoes. To get creative with the repelling process, you can make easy candles. Take a jar and add some lemon and lime slices, then add some basil leaves, fill it with water, and add 10-15 drops of lemongrass oil. Stir well and place a floating candle on top of the water.
5. Cockroaches
Tea tree oil is a natural alternative to pesticide repellent. In a spray bottle, mix 2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of tea tree oil, and 1/4 cup of vinegar. Spray the mixture around the infested areas at your home.
