Toilet seats can get wobbly for different reasons, including repetitive motions and daily usage. However, dealing with this problem can be extremely annoying and frustrating. Fortunately, there’s a very simple way to get it back in place.
5-Minute Crafts has prepared this short guide to teach you how to fix a loose toilet seat quickly.
Tools you’ll need:
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Wrench
❗It’s advisable to use these tools carefully to prevent scratches on your porcelain toilet bowl.
Method 1: toilet seats with visible bolts
Step 1. Open the hinge caps located at the back of the seat.
If necessary, push them open by using a screwdriver.
Step 2. Make sure the seat is aligned with the toilet bowl before you continue.
If necessary, ask another person for help to figure out whether the seat is perfectly aligned or not.
Step 3. Find the nut under the toilet bowl.
Step 4. Tighten the bolt on the top by using a screwdriver in a clockwise direction while holding the nut under the bowl.
- Make sure the seat is still central while following these instructions. If the screws are secured with wing nuts, you may hold onto them and tight them manually. Otherwise, you will need a wrench to do so.
- It’s advisable to do the same with the second bolt to ensure the seat is fully attached to the toilet.
🚫 Do not tighten the bolts too much, as they could be damaged.
❗If the screws spin or do not seem to tighten, use the pliers to grasp the nut while tightening the head of the bolt with the screwdriver.
Step 5. Check the seat to make sure it’s completely tightened and put the hinge caps back on to cover the bolts.
Method 2: toilet seats with hidden bolts
Step 1. Find the release button to remove the seat.
Push the button while lifting the seat off to detach it from the toilet bowl.
Step 2. Remove the caps over the bolts if there are any.
You may use a screwdriver to push them out if you can’t do it manually.
Step 3. Tighten the bolts with the screwdriver.
Look under the toilet bowl to find the nuts and hold them while tightening the bolts. If there aren’t any exposed nuts, pull up the hinge as you tighten the bolts.
