How to Save Money While Traveling
Traveling is really fun and enriches your culture but it can be quite expensive sometimes. 5-Minute Crafts has 7 useful tips to help you save money while traveling so you can do it more often.
1. Travel in the “off” season and be flexible with your flight.
A lot of destinations have an “off” season when there is less tourism. For that reason, during these times of the year, everything is cheaper, ranging from souvenirs, accommodations, and even plane tickets.
Some airlines offer discount flights if you travel on certain days of the week. So, by being flexible with your dates you can actually save a lot of money.
2. Find a hotel that serves free breakfast.
If you’re planning on staying in a hotel, look for those who offer free complimentary breakfast, so you don’t have that extra daily cost. Also, you can always grab a piece of fruit or a cereal bar to eat later.
3. Try couch surfing.
Couch surfing is a great option if you can’t afford to pay for accommodations. By using this service you can sleep on someone’s couch without spending any money. You just need to be careful and do some research about where you’re staying.
4. Travel overnight.
You can actually save some money by traveling on overnight trains and buses, as some companies in some countries offer cheaper tickets for this kind of transportation.
5. Eat like a local and cook at home.
Take advantage of local street food instead of going to restaurants 3 times a day, as it is much cheaper. Also, shop for local ingredients at farmer’s markets and try to make your own meals at home whenever you can. It’s also very helpful to have a fridge in your room as well, so you can stock it with fruits, veggies, cheeses, and sandwiches.
6. Walk or take local transportation.
Avoid taxis as much as you can. Instead, try to walk whenever it’s possible and do some research about public transportation, which is much cheaper than taking a taxi.
7. Visit attractions on free days.
Whenever you want to visit attractions do some research beforehand and find out if they have free or discount days. Plan your trip accordingly.
