5 Healthy Dog Treat Recipes

Suppose you want to train or simply pamper your pet. In that case, a healthy and delicious treat is the perfect ace up your sleeve to reward your gluttonous friend. However, many store-bought snacks contain artificial coloring, sugars, and preservatives. Therefore, a budget-friendly option to take care of your dog is to make homemade treats with the right ingredients.

5-Minute Crafts wants to share 5 treat recipes with you to spoil your furry companion. And remember, these are treats, meaning they’re given occasionally and are not substitutes for your dog’s regular meals.

1. Banana and sweet potato cookies

  • 1 banana

  • 1 cup sweet potato, cut into squares

  • 1 ¾ cups oatmeal

Instructions

  1. Boil the sweet potato for 15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.

  2. Put the banana, sweet potato, and flour in the blender until you get a thick mixture.

  3. Take the dough out of the blender and cover it in plastic wrap. Put it in the refrigerator for 6 hours or overnight. This will allow the oatmeal to absorb the moisture.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350ºF and set up a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  5. Cut the dough into small cubes and place them on the tray.

  6. Bake at 350ºF for 30 minutes. When the cookies are done, take them out of the oven and let them cool.

2. Peanut butter treats

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ⅓ cup unsalted peanut butter

  • 1 cup skim milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF and prepare a tray with parchment paper.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: the milk and peanut butter. Then add the dry ingredients to the mixture: the baking powder and flour.

  3. Cut the cookie dough into bone shapes and place them on the parchment paper tray.

  4. Bake at 350ºF for 20 minutes, until the treats become light brown. Take the tray out of the oven and let them cool.

3. Yogurt and peanut butter bites

  • 1 banana

  • ½ cup of natural plain yogurt

  • ½ cup unsalted peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Add the banana, yogurt, and peanut butter to the blender and mix until you get a creamy mixture.

  2. Place the mixture in a zip-top bag and cut off the tip.

  3. Pour the mixture into a silicone mold of your choice.

  4. Put the mold in the freezer for about 2 hours.

4. Homemade bacon-flavored cookies

  • 2 eggs

  • ½ cup of milk

  • ½ cup of water

  • 1 tsp of salt

  • 1 tbsp melted bacon grease

  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF and prepare a baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. In a bowl, mix all the wet ingredients: the milk, eggs, water, and bacon fat.

  4. Cut the dough with a round cookie cutter and make footprints with your fingers. Place them on the baking sheet.
