How to Feel Fresh In the Morning
Most of us wake up early to go to work, take our kids to school, or do something else. And you probably feel tired and sleepy in the morning. But the morning sets the mood for the entire day, so it would be great to feel fresh during this part of the day.
5-Minute Crafts has collected some recommendations to help you get up earlier and feel fresher in the morning.
Put the alarm aside
When the alarm rings, many people snooze it several minutes later to spend a bit more time in bed. It’s not a good idea because if you already didn’t get enough sleep, 5-10 minutes won’t change much.
When we go to bed and wake up at the same time, our internal clock synchronizes. It helps us feel fresh in the morning and sleepy in the evening. Hitting the snooze button usually ruins this habit.
Choose the right music
Certain alarm tunes are believed to help with morning sleepiness.
Pleasant tunes, unlike irritating ones, can give you a boost of energy. According to experts, songs like “Good Vibrations” by The Beach Boys and “Close to Me” by The Cure are great for waking up.
Let natural light in
Light can help you feel fresher in the morning. Open the curtains right after you wake up. Natural light will make your brain work because it regulates your circadian rhythms.
If it’s dark outside, you can turn on artificial light.
Set a comfortable temperature
Set a temperature regulator in your bedroom. It’s easier to get up when the temperature is comfortable. If it’s cold in winter, you won’t want to get out from under the blanket. And in the summer, when it’s hot, you’ll feel powerless.
Set the regulator so that it increases or decreases the temperature one hour before you wake up.
Find some time for pleasure
Plan something pleasant for the morning. Try finding some time and do something that gives you pleasure. It will make getting up so much easier.
For example, every morning you can cook a beautiful and tasty breakfast, read an interesting book, or go for a walk — whatever works for your brain.
Use mint toothpaste
The first thing we do in the morning is brush our teeth. Choose toothpaste that contains peppermint. It helps us wake up and concentrate.
Drink some water
Pure water has a positive effect on the body and when you drink it in the morning, it activates the metabolism.
It also washes out toxins from the body and increases energy levels.
Be active
To wake up faster, start your day with some physical activity. Jumping rope or fast walking helps you wake up your nervous system faster. Experts recommend 1-2 stretching exercises for your morning routine.
Take a shower
A morning shower will make you feel fresh, especially if you follow some rules:
- Take a shower right after you wake up.
- Set the temperature to 98°F (37°C).
- Don’t spend too much time in the shower: 5-10 minutes is enough.
Get some fresh air
To freshen up, go outside. You can walk or exercise. 20 minutes outside will give you a boost of energy. Try getting up a bit earlier and go for a walk.
Add caffeine
Caffeine increases the amount of serotonin and dopamine which, in turn, make our mood and focus better.
This is why a cup of coffee can help you feel fresh. Make sure it contains caffeine. If you don’t like coffee, you can drink green or black tea. They also contain caffeine.
Have breakfast
Our body has to get enough energy to function normally. This is why it’s better to not skip breakfast and have good food. Eating in the morning can help you focus and keep your circadian rhythms functioning normally.
Stick to your schedule
Stick to your sleep schedule. Try to not deviate from it even on weekends and holidays. If you usually wake up at 8 AM, don’t sleep in. Otherwise, it will be hard for you to wake up at 8 the next morning.
Get enough sleep
Of course, in order to feel fresh in the morning, we also need to get enough sleep.
- Experts recommend turning off all the light sources and sleeping in darkness. A bright light at night lowers the level of melatonin — a hormone that helps us get good sleep.
- At least one hour before sleep, disable all of your devices. Otherwise, your sleep quality may be impaired.
- If you have sleep problems, consider taking melatonin. And always consult your doctor before taking any supplements!
