How to Choose the Right Headphones

Headphones are one of the most used daily gadgets that impact our quality of life. When you are thinking to buy a perfect pair for yourself, you need to consider a few factors. So, 5-Minute Crafts has you covered with all the essential facts pieced together in one place, to guide you to buy the best pair of headphones for yourselves.

Types of headphones

1. Over-ear headphones

Over-ear headphones are the biggest of all types of headphones. The bigger they are, the more sound and better listening experience you’ll get among all its counterparts. The only con of having these headphones is that they take up a lot of space in your bag and some models can be heavy as well.

2. On-ear headphones

On-ear headphones are smaller in size than their over-ear counterparts, but they surely deliver a better sound experience than the in-ear headphones mentioned below. They’re also ideal for office use as they let in some amount of ambient sound. They’re also not very bulky to carry around. The only disadvantage to having these headphones is that they put a lot of pressure on your ears after a while.

3. In-ear headphones

In-ear headphones or earphones or earbuds are the most common, smallest, and cheapest headphones that are available with every modern phone these days. They’re a great choice when you want to listen to music while working out or playing sports. The only downside to having these sets is the sound quality. If you’re keen on listening to complex music, in-ear earphones aren’t a good choice.

Wired or wireless?

Wireless headphones provide more freedom and would not need to be physically attached to a device. It’s just that these pieces are more expensive and drain a lot of battery life.

On the other hand, wired headphones give you higher quality audio. So, if you are a music professional or a die-hard fan of music, these headphones are a good choice for you.

Once you have made your choice, check the following:

1. Do not rely simply on marketing.

Don’t buy headphones just because they look attractive. The point is to buy headphones that would give you the best sound quality and experience you’re seeking from these devices.

2. Test the device by playing Bohemian Rhapsody.

It may sound too tempting to try and see what your favorite song sounds like on your potential device, but it is highly recommended to play Bohemian Rhapsody when testing the headphones. This song has all the vocals and instrumentals in highs and lows and will help you gauge perfectly if the headphones are suitable for you or not.

Wearing your headpieces correctly

1. Over- and on-ear headphones

Keep note of L and R markings (L for left, R for right) and put the earcups on your ears accordingly, to ensure a good fit and performance. Make sure that the cushions fit perfectly so that your ears are nicely sealed. It is also recommended that you remove any jewelry that may feel uncomfortable when you put the headphones on.

2. In-ear headphones

Similar to over- and on-ear headphones, you need to keep a note of the L and R markings and insert the earbuds in your ears accordingly. Now, pull the left earlobe to create space for the earbud and gently push it into the ear canal. Repeat the same step for the right earlobe.
