10 Smart Tips to Make Your Camping Trips Easier

A camping trip is always good fun but there are things to consider like how to save space in your luggage, how to keep bugs away, or how to create the perfect campfire. The answer to these questions might not be that simple, so 5-Minute Crafts has compiled these 10 tricks to help you get the most out of a camping trip.

1. Easy fire light up

  • If you’re having trouble lighting a fire try checking your sock for any lint.
  • Take all the lint bits and make a ball.
  • Place the ball in the middle of the wood and lighting it up will be much easier.

2. Easy outdoor toilet

  • If you need a toilet, use a basket, a bag, and a pool noodle.
  • Wrap the plastic bag around the inside of the basket.
  • Cut a slit across the length of the pool noodle and stick it on top of the basket and bag, keeping the bag in place and giving you a place to sit.
  • You can try the same hack using a bucket. It might be more comfortable to sit on it. You can also hang toilet paper on its handle.

3. DIY pillow

  • Sleeping without a pillow isn’t for everyone, but pillows can take up too much space in your baggage.
  • Get a few plastic bags, fill them up with air and tie a knot up top.
  • Fill a pillow case with the airbags and you have a DIY pillow.

4. Open a can without a can opener

  • If you forgot to pack a can opener, not all is lost.
  • Rub the top of your can against a rock until it wears out the top part.
  • You should rub until the can lid is completely loose, you can then remove it with a utensil, like a plastic fork, for example, to avoid cutting yourself.

5. Dry shoes

  • A good way to dry shoes is by hanging them up, possibly over a fire.
  • Get a plastic bag that has handles and hang it securely on a stick with 2 drying clips.
  • Hang your shoes on the bag handles and leave them to dry.

6. Prevent a cold back

  • Sitting by a campfire at the end of the day is how we may imagine having some camping fun but with the fire in front of us, there’s nothing warming our backs.
  • Get a reflective windshield sunshade and wrap it around your back so it reflects the warm fire and keeps your whole body warm.

7. Waterproof your bags

  • Get a large candle and make sure it’s not been lit in a while.
  • Rub it across the cloth/non-waterproof parts of your bag and the wax coating should make them waterproof.

8. Save space on creams and toothpaste

  • contact lens holder makes a great place to store sunscreen, toothpaste, or any other cream.
  • Remove the caps and make sure it’s clean.
  • Squeeze your products into it and you have a portable tiny way to take your creams with you.

9. Car bed

  • If sleeping in a tent doesn’t sound appealing to you, you can create a bed in the back of your car.
  • Fold down the back seats of your car.
  • Place a mattress through the trunk of your car and make it into a comfy bed.

10. DIY lamp

  • If holding up your phone flash isn’t working for reading, build a DIY lamp.
  • Get a can of chips and cut out the circular bottom with a rectangle attached.
  • Place it where you need the light, then set your phone (with the flashlight on) on the can cut out and it’ll create a reflective lamp you don’t need to hold.
