12 Gardening tips and growing hacks for plant lovers

1. Grow your own tomatoes

Things you’ll need:

  • A sac full of soil
  • A cutter
  • A watering can
  • A tomato slice

How to do it:

  • Male a cross in the middle of the sac to open a hole
  • Bury the tomato slice on the soil
  • Water and wait for it to grow

2. Gardening with comfort

A pilates ball can be your best companion when gardening:

  • Use a rope or band to tie the ball to your waist and around the ball
  • Use the ball as a seat to avoid bending your spine

3. Grow onions at home

Things you’ll need:

  • A food box
  • 4 Onions
  • A cutter
  • Water

How to do it:

  • Chop off the ends of the onions
  • Make four holes on the top of the container, to fit the onions
  • Flip the top down over the bottom part of the container and pour water in it
  • Place the onions on the holes and wait for them to sprout

4. Home aquaponics

For this, a good type of plant that you can is herbs and leafy crops, For this hack you’ll just need a piece of polypropylene that fits on a fish tank and your preferred plants.

How to do it:

  • Take your plant out of its pot and cut half the roots
  • Make a hole on the piece of polypropylene to fit the roots of the plant
  • Insert the roots through the hole and place the polypropylene on the top of the fish tank

5. Watering hose from a tank

Things you’ll need:

  • A big soda bottle
  • Two pieces of a flexible hose, one shorter than the other
  • A tank full of water

How to do it:

  • Make a hole on the bottom of the bottle to fit the tube
  • Insert the long tube in the bottom of the bottle
  • Insert the short tube in the mouth of the bottle and into the water tank
  • Squish the bottle by the middle, until it’s filled with water, and it starts taking the water out from the other end

6. Lettuce growing nice

For your lettuce to grow vertically and nice, you’ll just need a piece of nylon pantyhose. Cut a circular piece from the stocking and wrap your lettuce with it, when it is still small.

Keep the nylon wrapped around the lettuce while it grows and when you‘re ready to harvest, remove the fabric.

7. Power nutrients

Prepare a cocktail full of nutrients for your plants, with common ingredients, from the comfort of your home. For this booster, you’ll need:

  • 4 Bananas
  • 2 Eggs
  • Water
  • A mixer

How to do it:

  • In the mixer, put the bananas, the eggs and water
  • Mix until it’s completely liquid and store in a jar with lid
  • Wait 2 weeks and use on the soil of your plants

8. Decorative stones

Things you’ll need:

  • Cement and water
  • A bowl to mix the cement
  • Plastic bags

How to do it:

  • In the bowl, mix cement and water, until it’a soft
  • Put some of the mix inside a plastic bag and close it
  • Mold with your hands to get the shape of a stone
  • Open the bag when it’s hardened

Vary the size and shape of the stones to make them look more natural and use them either on plant pots or on the ground.

9. Hanging succulents

For this craft you’ll need:

  • 2 Empty gallons of water
  • A cutter
  • Soil, water and hanging succulents

How to do it:

  • Using the cutter, make a rectangular hole on the front of the gallons
  • Make hole in the bottom of one of the gallons, to fit the mouth of the other
  • Put the gallons together using the bottom hole and hang them vertically
  • Put some soil in the gallon on top, put the succulents inside and water

10. Grow two varieties in one tree

  • Open a vertical window on the trunk of the apple tree
  • In that window, insert a vertical piece of the other variety of apple tree with a small branch on it
  • Attach to the trunk with tape

11. Suspended garden

Things you’ll need:

  • Buckets with handle
  • A cutter
  • Soil and plants of your preference

How to do it:

  • Make a hole in the bottom of the buckets
  • Hang the buckets from their handle
  • Insert the plants in the buckets through their bottom holes and with the roots facing up.
  • Put some soil in the buckets and water

12. Auto dripping system

Things you’ll need:

  • A square can
  • A drill
  • A wire
  • A piler
  • An empty soda bottle
  • Soil and seeds

How to do it:

  • Using the drill, make four holes to the bottom of the can. One on each corner
  • Make the more holes on one of the sides of the can
  • Hook the wire on the side holes, leaving a long part it above the can
  • Bend the top of the wire, making a circle that fits the bottle
  • Put soil and the seeds in the can
  • Make a hole to the bottom side of the bottle and some hole to its cap
  • Insert the bottle through the top circle of the wire
  • Pour some water inside the bottle through its side hole
