5 Great Math Tricks to Multiply Even If You Don’t Know the Tables by Heart

Whether you’re a math enthusiast or someone who hasn’t memorized multiplication tables, these clever tricks will empower you to perform multiplication with ease and confidence. Join us as we explore these invaluable techniques that make multiplication simpler and more accessible for everyone.

1. Multiplication Table for 9

  1. Start by writing down the numbers 0 to 9 in a straight line from top to bottom, similar to the green marker numbers in the image.
  2. Next, write the numbers 0 to 9 again, but this time from 9 to 0, in a line parallel to the first set of numbers, similar to the pink marker numbers in the image.
  3. The number formed by aligning the corresponding digits will be the result of each operation.

2. Multiplying by a Single Digit

  1. Draw vertical lines for each digit in the first number. For example, if the first number is 321, draw three lines, two lines, and one line vertically.
  2. Then, draw as many horizontal lines as the digit in the multiplier number. These horizontal lines will intersect the vertical ones.
  3. Count the number of crosses formed by each group of sticks for each number. When you put these numbers together, you will obtain the result of the multiplication operation.

3. Multiplying by Two Digits

To multiply using two digits, you can apply the same line system as before, but this time, extend the lines diagonally. When calculating the final numbers, follow these steps:

  1. Start by placing the crosses from the diagonal lines at the bottom.
  2. Then, add the crosses from the central diagonal lines.
  3. Next, combine the crosses from the upper and lower diagonal lines together.
  4. Finally, consider any remaining crosses.

4. Multiplication Table for 19

  1. Write the 19 times table, and after the equals sign, place only the odd numbers from 1 to 19.
  2. Then, starting from the end and moving upwards, write the numbers from 0 to 9.
  3. The number formed will be the result of each operation.

5. Multiplication Table for 7

  1. Write the 7 times table divided into 3 columns, each containing 3 operations.
  2. After the equals sign, write the numbers from 0 to 6, repeating the even numbers twice: 0, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6.
  3. The first operation in each column should correspond to the numbers 0, 2, and 4.
  4. Then, starting from the last operation in the first column, write the numbers from 1 to 9 from right to left and in ascending order.
  5. The resulting number will be the result of each operation.
