A Guide to Different Types of Seafood
Seafood is any kind of sea life that we can eat. They are the biggest sources of nutrients for us after cereal.
We at 5-Minute Crafts are going to tell you about crayfish, shrimp, and many other types of seafood.
Clams
- Bivalvia or simply clams have a protective shell consisting of 2 parts. The most famous ones are oysters, scallops, and mussels.
- Gastropoda or sea snails have a protective shell consisting of a whole piece.
- Cephalopods don’t have a protective shell. Their limbs grow out of their heads — they consist of octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish. They have great vision and are highly intelligent.
Crustaceans
- Shrimp are small 10-legged creatures. There are many kinds of shrimp and they can be found at the sea bottom on most coasts and in some rivers and lakes.
- Crabs usually walk sideways and have very strong claws. They have a small belly, short whiskers, and a wide flat shell.
- Lobsters and spiny lobsters are different species. Spiny lobsters have very long spiky whiskers and no claws on the first 4 pairs of legs but the females have a small claw on their fifth pair. Lobsters have a compressed shell without any side crests.
Echinoderm
- Echinoderms are ancient creatures that live on the sea bottom. They can be found in all the world’s oceans. They don’t live in freshwater. These species are edible: sea cucumbers, sea urchins, and sometimes starfish.
Algae
- Microalgae are just another kind of sea creature. And some water bacteria are even able to be eaten, for example, spirulina. Edible aquatic plants include flowering plants and ferns, like watercress and lotus.
