How to Choose a Computer Chair
There are so many computer chairs to choose from nowadays. Even if you are looking for something simple, there are still a lot of details you need to pay attention to, like the ability to adjust the seat depth, the height of the armrests, the type of wheels, and many other things.
5-Minute Crafts made a short guide that will tell you what to look out for when choosing an office chair.
Important things
-
Sit in the chair: between you and the edge of the seat on both ends, there should be at least 3 cm.
-
Stand in front of the chair: the edge of the seat should be on the same level as your knees. Sit down again and check to see if you can adjust the height of the seat.
-
After that, check to see if it’s possible to adjust the angle of the seat so that your pelvis is above your knees. It’s important to ensure the right support for the lower spine or back. If the chair doesn’t have this feature, you can use orthopedic pillows for the seat.
-
Find out if it’s possible to adjust the height of the back, so that the upper edge is just above the shoulders.
-
Find out if is possible to change the tilt of the back to make it comfortable for you to work leaning back.
-
It’s great if you can adjust the seat height so that your heels are on the floor.
-
The support of the lower back is really important to be able to sit for a long time in a natural position.
-
It’s more comfortable to work in a rotating chair so you are able to reach different parts of the desk.
Advice: A good chair should have several different mechanisms that can be adjusted with the consideration of the weight, height, and body proportions of the person sitting in it. If your budget is not limited, choose seats that have good lower back support, an adjustable width, and an adjustable height for the back.
Don’t forget
-
The armrests are supposed to support your arms and shoulders and not let you slouch. It’s great if the height of the armrests can be adjusted.
-
A netted back can be a great idea, especially in the summer.
-
The wheels can be either for solid or soft floors. The former have soft covers on them that won’t let them damage the floor, and the latter have plastic covers that are great for carpet. If your chair has plastic wheels, you can protect your floor by using a small mat.
-
Most chairs are for people that are no more than 240 lbs. For bigger people, there are special models that hold up to 770 lbs thanks to their construction, shape, and stronger materials.
