How to Correctly Peel and Cut a Mango

The mango is a popular tropical fruit from Asia. It is used for making juice, candied fruit, various desserts, ice cream, and sorbets. In India, mangoes are used for cooking national dishes, such as curry and chutney. However, most often, mangoes are eaten fresh. If you’ve ever bought this fruit from a store, you’ve likely wondered how to peel and cut it correctly.

5-Minute Crafts is showing you 5 methods for how to peel, cut, and serve mangoes in a beautiful manner. You won’t need special devices for it — you can easily do it with the help of improvised means.

Method #1: with a coin and a toothpick

  1. Take a clean metal coin and run its edge several times over the surface of the mango to soften the skin.
  2. Take a toothpick and carefully make a neat, longitudinal cut into the mango.
  3. Gently insert a toothpick under the skin of the fruit and move it from side to side along the entire length of the cut.
  4. Pry the edge of the skin with your finger.
  5. Remove the skin and take the mango out.
  6. The fruit is now peeled.

Method #2: with the help of a cut on the skin

  1. Take a knife and make 2 cuts on the top of the mango — one lengthwise, and the other across the fruit.
  2. Place the fruit on a stand.
  3. Pry the edge of the skin with your finger.
  4. Remove the skin from the fruit.

Method #3: in 2 halves

  1. Cut across the width of the whole fruit in the middle of the mango.
  2. While holding the top and the bottom parts of the mango, turn them to the opposite sides.
  3. Remove the seed. Now you can eat the fruit with a spoon.

Method #4: glass

  1. Cut a piece of mango from the side.
  2. Take a glass and attach the pulp side of the fruit to its edge.
  3. Slightly press the mango and move it along to the bottom of the glass.
  4. All the pulp is now in the glass.

Method #5: carving the mango

  1. Take a mango and put it onto a wooden skewer.
  2. Gently remove the skin from the fruit.
  3. Take a knife and make a cut on the base of the mango the same way it’s shown in the pic above.
  4. Make similar cuts on the rest of the fruit.

5. Eat mangoes fresh, without any additional ingredients, or cook a simple dessert with them by sprinkling some cinnamon on top.

6. Afterward, pour liquid chocolate, jam, or syrup over it.
