How to Remove a Tempered Glass Screen Protector
Just like it’s not easy to attach a screen protector to a phone, it’s no less easy to remove it.
But there is no reason to invent new ways to remove your screen protector. With 5-Minute Crafts, you can do it in a matter of minutes.
Method 1
Gear:
- a hairdryer
The working process:
1. Clear some space on the table in front of you. Spread out a piece of paper or newspaper: if the glass is cracked badly, you can easily pick up the shards.
2. Use a hairdryer to warm up the tempered glass for 15 seconds — to soften the glue underneath. Use low power to avoid overheating the device.
3. Try lifting the corners of the glass with your fingernail. At least one of them should come off. If it doesn’t, gently warm any corner for a few more seconds and try lifting it again.
4. As soon as the corner gives in, begin to carefully move it away from along the edge of the glass. Don’t make sudden movements or try to tear off the entire film at once to avoid shards.
5. Continue to move along the perimeter of the glass, lifting its edges. Once they are peeled off, you can detach the center of the screen protector from the phone.
Method 2
You’ll need:
- 2 thin plastic cards
The working process:
1. Clear some space on the table in front of you and spread a sheet of paper just in case the tempered glass cracks badly.
2. Place the plastic card at a slight angle to the phone and try to slip it under one of the corners of the glass.
3. Continue to slide the card slowly under the glass, moving along one side of the phone. To prevent the peeled off corner from sticking back to the surface of the gadget, place a second plastic card under it.
4. When you reach the second side of the glass, start slowly pushing the card deeper under the glass. Don’t try to remove the glass in one motion to avoid breaking it.
5. Remove the glass from the phone once most of it comes off the screen.
Important: Use thin plastic cards or hard business cards. It will be very difficult to slip a thick plastic card under the tempered glass.
Method 3
You’ll need:
- duct tape
- a hairdryer
The working process:
1. Warm up the tempered glass with a hairdryer for 15 seconds to make it easier to take off.
2. Roll a piece of duct tape around 2 of your fingers with the sticky side out.
3. Place your fingers with tape on them on one corner of the glass. Press firmly and move upward, moving your hand from the edge of the phone toward the center.
4. When you are able to raise the corner of the glass, slowly begin to detach it from the phone screen. Move along the perimeter of the phone.
5. When the tempered glass begins to peel off from all sides, start moving toward the center to completely remove the protector.
