How to Rescue Books Damaged by Water
Many of us have books at home. They’re memories and sources of wisdom that we hold dear. One of the goals people who love books have is to keep them in pristine condition for as long as possible. But an accident can always occur, and water can reach your adored possessions and get them wet. But don’t be too quick to throw them away just because of that.
5-Minute Crafts will show you a way to save your favorite books.
1. Apply absorbent sheets.
-
Try to combat the excess water with absorbent sheets as soon as possible.
-
Dry the cover and pages with them, putting one on every 10-20 pages without opening the book more than 90 degrees. Then close it and apply pressure to it.
2. Air-dry the book with a fan.
-
Leave the book half-open in front of a fan overnight or until it dries completely.
3. Put the book under pressure.
-
Place the book between 2 boards.
-
Put something heavy on top of the board to make it as flat as possible. Let this work for 24-48 hours or until it dries thoroughly.
4. Keep the book intact for future recovery.
-
If you don’t have time to rescue the book immediately, you can hold off on the process. To do this, find a Ziplock plastic bag.
-
Take the book to the freezer. When you have time to repair it, take it out and follow the steps mentioned above.
