Jamie Lee Curtis’s Story Proves That You Can Be Yourself and Still Be Loved by Everyone
Jamie Lee Curtis has just turned 64 and still takes our breath away. Enthusiastic, loving, and open-minded, the actress inspires millions of people to be free and creative. Find out more about why we love Curtis and what we can learn from her in our article.
Beauty, to her, is much more than what’s on the outside.
Many women feel enormous pressure to attain unrealistic beauty standards on social media. Jamie Lee Curtis believes the current trend of fillers and other beauty procedures is wiping out generations of beauty. The actress calls herself an “advocate for natural beauty” and encourages people to reconsider their own worth outside their physical appearance.
She is brave enough to show her vulnerability.
Curtis speaks from experience. She admitted that her relationship with her body was far from always good. “I’ve had a little lipo. I’ve had a little Botox. And you know what? None of it works,” she told More magazine. “I tried to do everything you can do with your hair. Personally, it felt humiliating,” she said in another interview with Lorraine.
Curtis hasn’t changed her tune. She is not afraid of showing herself as she really is, away from cameras, without makeup and filters.
She has nothing to hide.
The star doesn’t hide her age, her gray hair, or her body imperfections. In the new movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Curtis showed her natural body. “Everyone assumes that her belly in the movie is a prosthetic, but it’s actually her real belly,” says Daniel Kwan, the film’s director and writer. The actress admitted that she deliberately released every muscle she had that she used to clench to hide reality.
“Why do you wanna look 17 when you’re 70?” Curtis wondered, adding, “I wanna look 70 when I’m 70.”
She breaks the stigma the trans community faces.
Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband, Christopher Guest, became parents through adoption after experiencing infertility. In 2021, the star revealed that her younger child is transgender. Curtis has shown herself as a supportive parent. She speaks out publicly against transphobia.
She writes books for children.
Jamie Lee Curtis is not only an actress but also a children’s author. She has written 13 best-selling books since 1993. One of her books, I’m Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem, which has very high ratings, teaches children to like themselves just the way they are and accept themselves even when they aren’t perfect.
She does charity work.
My Hand In Yours is a charity established by Jamie Lee Curtis. The company sells carefully crafted items, such as candles, beanies, blankets, and sculptures. Every cent of sales goes to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
When asked about what her legacy will be, Curtis said, “I hope it’s kindness.”
She is not going to stop.
Curtis didn’t expect to be so busy in her 4-decade career. During the last few years, she hasn’t been just an actress, but also a blogger, producer, and podcaster — and that’s not all. At 64, she is currently taking drum lessons. Her motto is: “If not now, when? If not me, who?”
The kindness and honesty of this actress are worthy of respect. What do you think about aging and “natural beauty?” Share your opinions in the comments!
