How to Remove Stinky Odors From Your Home

People first notice the scent when they enter your home. Perhaps, at some point in life, you may have wanted to open the windows so badly to get fresh air because of the stinky stuffy room you just stepped into. Don’t worry if the smelly odor is lingering where you are now because 5-Minute Crafts has excellent tips and tricks for you to check out.

1. Use vinegar.

  • Mix 3 tbsp of vinegar and a glass of water in a pot.
  • Boil the mixture and leave it on the stove for a few minutes. This way, the vinegar water solution will absorb all the smells in the air.
  • Pour the rest of the solution into the kitchen sink to disinfect the drain and eliminate the bad smells.

2. Get automatic air fresheners.

You can install automatic air fresheners in the bathrooms, powder rooms, or entrances.

  • Pick a scent according to your liking.
  • Have some extra batteries in case you run out.
  • It will work for quite a long time and is convenient because it’s automatic.

Note: Modern air purifiers on the market come with an all-in-one solution and can help you eliminate bad smells. They eliminate the foul odors, and some also work as humidifiers.

3. Opt for some scented candles.

  • There are many kinds of scented candles on the market — be sure to pick the one that emits a pleasant smell when burning.
  • Never leave the candles unattended. Keep them away from kids and pets.

4. Use herbs.

  • Herbs in small sachets or bags are great for eliminating unpleasant odors.
  • You can place them in your closet. But remember to replace them when it’s time.

5. Dare to use aroma lamps.

Aroma lamps come with plates or containers attached to them from the top.

  • Pour a little bit of water into the container.
  • Add a few drops of essential oil.
  • Place a burning candle inside the lamp.
  • Don’t let the water boil, or else the oil might burn.
  • Be sure to not leave a burning candle unattended.

6. Burn incense.

There are many kinds of incense, but they all work similarly. To use them:

  • Light the tip of the stick.
  • Insert the stick into its container or holder. You’ll see that it’s spreading a pleasant smell. If it gives you a headache, immediately stop using the incense because it’s not for everyone.
  • Be sure to never place it on bare surfaces while burning, as it may ignite. Also, remember to not let the ash fall on anything, as it can easily catch fire.

7. Purchase aroma diffusers.

Aroma diffusers don’t just eliminate distinctive odors, but they also create a pleasant atmosphere for your home. Be sure to purchase them in a store, and not online, because this way, you can pick your favorite scent. They generally come with thin wooden sticks. To use them:

  • Open the diffusor’s lid and insert the wooden sticks inside it.
  • It’s a good idea to start with a single stick. Otherwise, the smell may be a bit strong.
  • You can add another stick in a few hours when you feel the scent isn’t intense.
  • Over time, the sticks will get wet. So, be cautious and don’t place other objects close to them as they may get oil on them.

8. Don’t be afraid to use cat litter.

Cat litter not only absorbs unpleasant odors in your surroundings, but it’s also great at eliminating the stinky smell in your trash cans. To do so:

  • Put some cat litter at the bottom of a trash bag. Throw away any trash on top of it.

9. Use tea bags.

Tea leaves might help you with getting rid of bad smells too.

  • Put tea bags inside the room that has a distinct odor. Note that you can insert the tea bags into your shoes, the fridge, the microwave oven, or your closet.

10. Use citrus peels.

The peel of any citrus fruit, like oranges, lemons, grapefruits, limes, or tangerines, is undoubtedly significant in eliminating foul odors.

  • Pick your citrus fruits and prep their peels.
  • Take a non-stick frying pan.
  • Set the stove at a medium temperature.
  • Heat the peels for several minutes until you can smell the citrus. While doing so, be sure to never burn the peels. Turn the heat down when they turn darker.

11. Use coffee beans.

The coffee smell helps you feel awake and creates a pleasant atmosphere in the room.

  • Put coffee beans in a non-stick frying pan. Then, set the stove to a moderate temperature.
  • Heat the beans, but don’t burn them.
  • Turn the stove off when you eventually smell the amazing coffee aroma.
