1. Kate Winslet
Multiple BAFTA award-winning actress, Kate Winslet, had to deal with her insecurities during her teenage years but was stubborn enough to not succumb to them.
In one of her speeches, she stated: “When I was younger, when I was only 14, a drama teacher told me that I might do okay if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts. So, what I feel like saying in those moments to any young woman who has ever been put down by a teacher, a friend, or even a parent, just don’t listen to any of it because that’s what I did.”
2. Meryl Streep
Many say Meryl Streep is one of the best actresses on-screen, but she also received some unpleasant comments during her auditions.
“I walked in, and his (director’s) son was sitting there, very excited that he’d brought in this new actress. The father said to his son in Italian, because I understand Italian: ’Why do you bring me this ugly thing?’ So, I told him: ’I apologize, but I understand what you’re saying. Ryder stated in an interview that she wasn’t considered a beauty and that during one of her auditions, she was bluntly interrupted and told that she should not be an actress.
“You are not pretty enough. You should go back to wherever you came from, and you should go to school,” the casting director said to Ryder.
