10 Celebrities Who Prefer to Live on a Budget

It’s well-known that fame can bring you a lot of money or even an impressive fortune. However, some celebrities have chosen to keep their feet on the ground and stay away from overspending on things when there’s no need to.

Today, we will show you 10 Hollywood stars who’ve decided to live on a budget, even when they may be able to afford a more expensive lifestyle.

1. Kristen Bell

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star revealed that she has a very frugal lifestyle and takes advantage of coupons whenever she can. In an interview, she said, “I almost exclusively shop with coupons,” with Bed Bath & Beyond being her favorite coupon. “It’s the best one because they’ve got 20 percent off, and if you go and buy a duvet or an air conditioner or whatever, you could be saving upward of $80,” she confessed.

2. Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish’s journey hasn’t been an easy one, as she spent most of her teenage years in foster care and even experienced homelessness, which is one of the main reasons why the Girls Trip costar is careful about her expenses and has chosen to handle her money wisely.

In an interview, the actress revealed that she’s not planning to change her frugal lifestyle as she doesn’t know what could happen in the future. “I’m probably going to be cheap with my money for a long time. You know I’ve been homeless, so it’s like, ‘Yeah it’s here now but will it be here in 5 years?’ I don’t know,” she said.

3. Tyra Banks

Despite being among the richest models in the fashion industry and having an estimated net worth of $90 million, Tyra Banks has leaned toward living her life with simplicity. In an interview, the top model confessed, “I was always more interested in experiences over things. Things didn’t make me happy. I saved, saved, saved. But I saved to a fault. About 15 years ago, my accountants pulled me aside, and they were like, ’Tyra. You’re not spending money. Nothing. You’re just giving it away to the government. You need to spend some money!’”

In addition, Banks has revealed how investing can be much better than spending by her own example. “While a lot of models were partying it up and going shopping and buying a closet full of designer clothes or staying at the top hotels during fashion week, I was at the DoubleTree or Embassy Suites, saving my money, and bought a house at 20 years old,” she confessed.

4. Ed Sheeran

Even though he made it to the Forbes list of the highest-earning musicians in the world, Ed Sheeran has kept his feet on the ground regarding his expenses. In an interview, he confessed that, “You never want to be wasteful,” and admitted that he keeps the same account he had when he was a student. “[I use] my Barclays student account. I’ve not upgraded because I don’t spend much money. If I had all my money in one account, I would spend all of it, so I get an allowance.”

At the same time, he revealed that he allows himself to spend around $1,000 each month. “Maybe a grand. I really don’t spend much money. I spend most of it on taxis!” he said.

5. Keira Knightley

The Oscar-nominated star has been open about why she prefers to live a frugal lifestyle, as it has allowed her to keep friends. “I think living an expensive lifestyle means you can’t hang out with people who don’t live that lifestyle. It alienates you. Some of my best most hilarious times have been in the least luxurious places,” she confessed in an interview.

6. Jay Leno

Despite having a net worth that goes beyond $400 million, the comedian has been wise about his expenses and has talked about the importance of keeping himself out of debt, even when allowing himself to have a car collection. “I never spent money before I had it. I never bought anything before I could afford it. I never bought anything on time,” he revealed.

At the same time, the Hollywood star has admitted that he doesn’t spend much money on clothing. “I’m just not interested in clothes. To me, it seems like a complete waste of money. I just want to have enough clothes to cover legally what parts I have to cover,” he confessed.

7. Sarah Michelle Gellar

The Cruel Intentions star has had no issues talking about how she and her husband prefer to save money on food, even when her net worth could allow her to do all the opposite. “Freddie and I go to the supermarket probably every day, because we like to eat fresh, organic, and local. People think it’s so expensive to eat like that, but there are ways to do it so it’s not as pricey. We shop at Whole Foods, but we ask which fish is on sale. On sale doesn’t mean it’s bad! It probably just means it’s overcaught. And I clip coupons all the time. Why should you pay more for something that someone else is paying less for?” she confessed in an interview.

8. Mariska Hargitay

It may look like the Law & Order: SVU actress could afford an expensive lifestyle due to her impressive income from the TV series. However, she has chosen to be prudent about her expenses because her upbringing taught her to do so. “I make a lot now, but I don’t feel that way, because I was poor and had no money for a lot longer than I’ve had it. As an actor, if this show ends next year, then what? As an aging woman, then what? I’m saving money to live on, for the future. There are not that many roles for women, and I’ve been blessed with one of the great ones,” she confessed.

9. Lady Gaga

Despite making a lot of money from her music, her acting roles, and other businesses, the Grammy-winning singer is not afraid to admit that she rarely spends any money on herself. “I didn’t get into this business for the money so I don’t spend a thing, but I am so happy. It’s really funny because my manager often calls me and is like: ’Did you lose your credit card? Did you cut it up? Did you lose it?’ He is like: ’Why don’t you spend any money?’ It’s because I don’t. I have not gone crazy,” she confessed.

At the same time, Lady Gaga is always looking for a bargain. In one of her Tweets, the acclaimed singer openly complained about people staring at her while she was searching for a good deal.

10. Dave Grohl

The Foo Fighters’ lead singer knows about a frugal lifestyle as he has revealed that he has leaned toward saving rather than spending. When asked about his expenses in an interview, the singer responded, “It goes straight into my bank account, where it turns all moldy and smelly.” And although Grohl knows the benefits that come alongside his paychecks, he confessed that he’s not pursuing more wealth. “I don’t waste my time thinking about how I could make more when I already got enough. I’m not a banker, I’m a musician.”

In addition, the star has been mostly wise about his purchases. “I drive a family car — not a monster SUV, but a family car that fits 5 people. I’ve got a house that is just big enough too,” he said.
