16 Unusually Bizarre Records That Made History

Guinness World Records always amazes us with its extraordinary finds. Individuals, from the tallest to the shortest, the longest nailed, the most tattooed, and more, do unusual things to set a new title for themselves. 1. Longest toenails

Louise Hollis, from the USA, grew her toenails from 1982 onward to great lengths. In 1991, the combined length of all her 10 toenails was 87 in (220.98 cm). She avoids wearing shoes, therefore, opts for open-toed ones with at least 3 in (7.62 cm) thick soles to protect her nails.

2. Hairiest teenager

Supatra “Nat” Sasuphan, from Thailand, set a new title for herself in 2010, becoming the hairiest teenager. She explained later that she had a lot of friends at school and didn’t feel any different from the rest.

3. Largest bubblegum bubble blown

In 2004, Chad Fell, from the USA, blew the largest bubblegum bubble with a diameter of 20 in (50.8 cm) without using his hands.

4. Youngest female with a full beard

Harnaam Kaur, from the UK, has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which causes excessive hair growth and more androgen than most women. When awarded in 2015, she was 24 years and 282 days old. Thanks to her positive attitude toward life no matter what, she has indeed inspired many of us.

5. The most tattooed man

Lucky Diamond Rich, from New Zealand, became the most tattooed man in 2006 with 100% coverage after spending over 1,000 hours getting tattooed. He’s held this record for over a decade now. Currently, he has more than 200% coverage, including his eyelids, the delicate skin between the toes, the upper part of the ear canals, and even his gums.

6. Most diamonds set on a toilet

In 2019, a toilet by Aaron Shum Jewelry Ltd., Hong Kong, and Swiss brand Coronet, made it to the Guinness Book of Records. It has 40,815 diamonds totaling 334.68 carats. Its estimated price is nearly $1.3 million.

7. Longest ear hair

Anthony Victor, a retired headmaster from India, broke a record in 2010 thanks to his longest ear hair, measuring up to 7.1 in (18.1 cm) from the center of his outer ears.

8. Longest fingernails

In 2008, Lee Redmond, from the USA, became a Guinness title holder thanks to her long fingernails on both hands. She began growing and manicuring them carefully in 1979. They were about 28 ft 4.5 in (8.65 m) when she lost her nails in an automobile accident in 2009.⁣

9. The most piercings

Axel Rosales, from Argentina, is one of the luckiest that made it to the Guinness Book of Records in 2012 thanks to having 280—the most piercings on the face.

10. The most enormous wig

In 2004, Emilio Minnicelli, from Italy, made and modeled a giant wig from human hair, measuring about 46 ft 11 in (14.3 m) tall. It weighed 57 lbs (26 kg).

11. The most balanced cat—10 dice on a single steady paw

In 2017, Malaysian Bibi, a domestic short-haired cat, set a record for herself by balancing 10 dice on her paw without even moving it.

12. Largest gathering of people donned as brides

1,347 people donned their bridal dresses in 2019 and flocked together in Petrer, Spain — the oldest one wearing her wedding dress was 92 years old. They set the record for the largest gathering of people dressed as brides.

13. Smallest waist

Cathie Jung, from the USA, got awarded in 1999. Her never-ending enthusiasm for Victorian-style clothing and corsets led her to have the most petite corseted waist (tightlacing), measuring only 15 in (38.1 cm). Her un-corseted waist is 21 in (53.34 cm).

14. Longest moustache

Ram Singh Chauhan, from India, became ’’the longest mustache’’ record holder in 2010 with his 14 ft (4.29 m) mustache. He explained later that his routine included massaging, regular oiling, and washing it every 10 days. He’s lucky because his wife is all in to help him.

15. Largest mouth gape (female)

Samantha Ramsdell, from the USA, secured herself a spot in the Guinness Book of Records thanks to having the largest mouth gape in the female category. Using digital calipers, her mouth’s maximum stretch—the exact length and width—was calculated as 2.56 in (6.52 cm). Also, it’s incredible to hear her story. Growing up, she was so insecure about her big lips because she was bullied. Now, she embraces her lips and celebrates being unique.

16. First person with an implanted antenna

Neil Harbisson, from the UK, is a recognized cyborg and the world’s first cyborg artist. He makes art from the colors he sees in music. He was born with rare total color blindness, called achromatopsia, with only black-and-white perception. And he got his first implanted antenna into the back of his skull in 2004.

It can not only connect to the internet and receive telephone calls, but the Bluetooth-enabled antenna also helps him hear images and paint sounds thanks to the attached cam hanging in front of his eyes. He can also hear colors as the antenna converts light waves into sound waves, then transmits them to his inner ear. His color spectrum spans from low (dark red) to high (purple) notes. Interestingly, he can hear or sense colors from the UV and IR light range, which is uncommon to see with bare eyes.
