Back to the Future’s Marty McFly and Dr. Brown Reunite and Move Their Fans to Tears

After being rejected by major studios and correcting its script more than 40 times, Back to the Future finally made it to the Hollywood summit by earning an Academy Award, becoming the highest-grossing movie the year it was released, and creating thousands of fans with its beloved characters Marty McFly and Dr. Brown.

In this article, we will show you some details about the co-stars’ most recent reunion, alongside some facts about the actors’ enduring friendship.

Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd’s latest reunion

Back to the Future co-stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd owned the stage at the New York Comic Con bringing their fans to tears with an emotional reunion, which took place 37 years after the movie was first released. The duo, who played Marty McFly and Emmet Brown, respectively, attended the event to talk about the legacy of this modern classic.

The moment was so epic that fans shared videos on social media, including Lloyd himself, who posted a photo with his dear friend and film partner along with the caption, “I cherish these moments! Thank you to @newyorkcomiccon, my dear friend @realmikejfox, and most importantly, all you wonderful fans who show up year after year. This is all because of you! This is heavy!.”

Other outstanding visual registers of the event have gathered thousands of views, like a video posted on Twitter that shows the exact moment when the actors get together on stage. “I’m not crying, you’re crying,” the caption says, describing how exciting and emotional the reunion was not only to those who could attend the event but also to the ones who watched Fox and Lloyd reunite through social media platforms.

How their friendship started

Michael J. Fox joined the Back to the Future cast after the film production had already begun. In fact, Christopher Lloyd had filmed sequences with Eric Stoltz, who formerly played Marty McFly. However, director Robert Zemeckis realized that Stoltz wasn’t the right choice for the role and reshot the scenes after Fox was cast, which added around $3 million to the movie budget.

Apparently, and even with these increased expenses, Zemeckis couldn’t have made a better call when he decided to include Fox in his team, as Lloyd has shared, “The announcement at one o’clock in the morning after we were shooting for 6 weeks, was that the actor playing Marty would no longer be playing Marty and that tomorrow, we would start shooting with Michael. I felt that I’d barely made it through the 6 weeks, and now I was gonna have to do it again... There was immediate chemistry, as they say.”

At the same time, Fox talked about what working with Lloyd was like by stating, “It was a thrill. Anytime I got to work with him, I knew it was gonna be a good day.”

Michael J. Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s disease

Both Fox and Lloyd have continued making small appearances on the big and small screens. However, Fox’s acting career has been affected by his Parkinson’s symptoms. The 61-year-old actor was first diagnosed with the disease in 1991 when he was 29 years of age. Even though he kept his diagnosis private for 7 years, the star established the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research around 9 years later, where he has been working hard ever since.

In the meantime, Lloyd has shared that his relationship with Fox goes beyond the screen and has spoken out to raise awareness of his friend’s battle with the disease by stating, “Back to the Future has always been more than just a movie. Its core values: determination, strength, passion, and friendship have transcended into a legacy we could have never imagined. Michael, you have taken it even deeper with your fight for Parkinson’s. It is truly admirable, and I am happy to help, always.”
