7+ Tips That Will Truly Help You Boost Your Body Positivity

Body positivity is a movement that stands for acceptance, appreciation, and respect for bodies just the way they are. Even though these actions may sound like difficult things to put into practice, they may be worth a try, as they can result in improving your mental health and well-being, as well as contributing to a more inclusive society.

5-Minute Crafts will give you some tips to help you be more compassionate toward yourself and reach body positivity.

1. Embrace all the things that your body can do for you.

Your body does a lot of things to help take you to the places you want to be throughout your life. Therefore, it’s a good idea to celebrate these actions in order to build positive feelings toward your body. Embrace that you can laugh, dance, dream, and breathe every day.

If you need a daily reminder to do so, you can always stick notes with positive affirmations on your mirror, which happens to be the place where we may experience the most negative feelings toward ourselves. Remember to include other statements that make you feel good.

💡 Whenever you’re being critical toward your body, ask yourself if you would say the same thing to a friend. Since the answer is most likely to be “no,” this strategy may help you to stay away from those negative thoughts.

2. Engage with body-positive content on social media.

Social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, can have a huge influence on the way we perceive ourselves. Due to this, it’s important to filter the type of content you engage with to stay away from any negative feelings toward your body.

In this scenario, it’s always a good idea to remember that the unfollow button is there for you to use it. For instance, if the content of a specific account is making you feel bad about yourself, you can always unfollow or mute it.

💡Make this easier by keeping in mind that the accounts you follow should encourage positive feelings, such as inspiration, empowerment, and challenge in a good way  never the opposite.

3. Opt for clothes you feel great in.

Every day, many of us spend a lot of time deciding on which clothes we should put on, and this amount of time could last even longer when picking out garments that are no longer our size.

Therefore, it’s advisable to stop negative thoughts about your body by donating all those clothes that no longer fit and buying new clothes that make you feel good. According to experts, a useful strategy is to start dressing and taking care of your body as it is in the present.

💡Remember that your wardrobe should promote physical comfort in order to reinforce your positive feelings about your body, no matter what others think.

Here, it may also be helpful to avoid comparing yourself to others or to what you looked like when you were younger. We’re all different and it’s perfectly healthy and normal that our bodies change as time goes by.

4. Don’t ask your friends to untag you in pictures.

Learn to accept the way you look in every situation, even if you think that a specific picture is unflattering and isn’t doing you any justice.

Remember that you don’t need to have a perfect appearance in a photo, so it’s okay to post a silly picture from time to time, especially if the people who may actually see it already know you and are aware of what you look like in reality.

5. Set boundaries whenever it’s necessary.

Keep in mind that it may be useful to set certain limits with people who may not be as interested in the process of body positivity as you are. For instance, you can always ask a person to change the subject if you ever get involved in conversations about calorie counting, body modifications, or any other topic that could lead to negativity.

Remember that you can support this request by simply saying that you’re trying to have a more positive relationship with your body and, therefore, you would like to avoid talking about things that could put you in a difficult place.

If the person is interested in your well-being, it’s very likely that they will respect this boundary. However, if they refuse to do so, you can always keep a physical and emotional distance from that relationship.

6. Learn to accept compliments.

Not being able to do so could lead to underestimating yourself. Therefore, it’s important to accept compliments whenever you get them by simply responding with gratitude and without adding any contrasting statements with a “but.”

You can also respond to positive comments by returning a compliment. However, be careful with what you choose to say in order to avoid undervaluing yourself.

7. Pamper yourself and help others.

Give your body a little reminder about how much you appreciate it by doing nice things for yourself. Here, you can go for simple actions, such as spending time in a peaceful, relaxing place, taking a bath, or indulging in a nap.

Moreover, using your time and energy to help other people can also have a positive impact on the way you feel. So it’s advisable to focus on doing nice things for others rather than worrying about those negative aspects you don’t like about yourself.
