The event took place on November 14, after being delayed for about 2 years. The honoree was joined by some of her former co-stars, including David Faustino, Katey Sagal, and Selma Blair, as well as by her most recent TV partner, Linda Cardellini, with whom she stars in Netflix’s sitcom Dead to Me.

Christina received her star in tears with an emotional speech in which she shared that she was fulfilling a dream. “I’ve had a really interesting life, but the life started as a little girl waiting in line to see the first Star Wars on this very street at that very theater. And looking at these things and going, ’Who are these people? What are these things? Did they do something right? Did they do something wrong? Whatever it is, I want one.’” Then, she added, “And I was 5 years old, so this day means more to me than you can possibly imagine.”

After that, and confessing that she couldn’t stand for too long, Applegate expressed her gratitude to her coworkers, to whom she referred as her family rather than friends. “I don’t say that I have friends, I have family. These people take care of me. They take care of me every day of my life, and without them, I don’t know what I would do,” she said.

Christina’s speech became especially emotional when she thanked her daughter Sadie. “And lastly, the most important person in this world is my daughter. You are so much more than even you know. You are so beautiful and kind and loving and smart and interesting, and I am blessed every day that I get to wake up and take you to your school. You are my everything. Thank you for standing beside me through all of this.” she added.

At this ceremony, Applegate made her first public appearance since August 2021, when she revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a disease that can affect the brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord.

For this reason, the actress received her star walking barefoot and using a cane and, after thanking her daughter, she showed her outstanding sense of humor by joking about her own diagnosis by saying, “Oh, by the way, I have a disease. Did you not notice? I’m not wearing shoes! Anywho, you’re supposed to laugh at that,” she said.

On her Twitter account, Applegate shared that for some people with the disease, footwear can cause pain and a loss of balance, so she chose not to wear shoes for the occasion.

Applegate admitted that the script to play Elle Woods in Legally Blonde came to her. However, she had just finished performing a similar character and passed on the role. “At that time, I had just gotten off of Married with Children, and I felt like it was too close to what I had just been doing and I was very interested in removing myself from that,” she said in an interview. Even though the movie was a success and Reese Witherspoon got a Golden Globe nomination for portraying the character, Christina doesn’t regret her decision. “I don’t regret it because Reese Witherspoon did a much better job than I ever could,” she shared.

In contrast to her role on the sitcom, Applegate has been praised for her versatility and intelligence by her co-stars multiple times. Ed O’Neill has said that only an actress with her talent could have portrayed such a character so convincingly, being able to often succeed in her performance on the first or second try.

3. She guest-starred on Friends and received an Emmy Award for her performance.

Applegate played Rachel’s sister in the episode The One with Rachel’s Other Sister. The role was originally planned to be portrayed by Reese Witherspoon, who was unavailable at the time. However, Christina’s performance was such a success that she was honored with the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy series.

4. She has been chosen as one of the most beautiful people, twice.

Due to her undeniable beauty, Applegate made it to People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1999. 10 years later, she was included on the list of People Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful in 2009, where she topped the list and appeared on the cover of the magazine for the annual ranking.

5. She’s an animal lover and an active supporter of PETA.

Besides confessing that her house has been “basically a zoo” ever since she was a little girl and that there’s dog hair on everything she owns, Christina is an active supporter of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). In fact, she was the face in one of the organization’s holiday cards inviting people to not buy fur.

Moreover, Applegate also admitted that she became a vegetarian at age 15 while filming Married with Children. “I was eating lunch on the Married With Children set, and they served me some kind of meat. I looked down, and it was that realization that I can’t eat something that has been alive, I just can’t do it. So I stopped, and that was it. That was the last time,” she shared in an interview.
